• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Noisy Power Steering

the bolts are 13mm if iirc. i could be wrong on that. just take some metric sockets out there you'll get it.
i say don't get a-1 cardone remanufactured pump because i got one and it was bad, after hearing someone else's testimony to bad pumps from them.
keep your pulley as long as it's not messed up. belt, yes. i got a little grease on my old one or stretched it or something and it squealed pretty bad after i did mine. always helps to have a new belt anyway. security.

Why are you giving him crap.....Why is someone not allowed to comment on an old thread.... heres a question, If we aren't allowed to comment on old thread, and everyone tells everyone to use the damn search button.... WTF IS EVERYONE SUPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT?

The old threads exist because most have been answered and can be looked back upon for information.

A year old thread isn't the greatest place to make your first post.

Power steering pumps go out... It's not GMs fault that a 15 year old PS pump went bad...

Thank you for posting this. I agree with you completely. I saw a post a few days ago that had not been responded to in two months or so, I think, and someone gave the guy heck for it when someone posted in it. I felt really felt bad for the person that responded to the post, who was adding to it or asking a question about it (can't remember the specifics) and then got beat on because someone thought it was a "dead thread".

Dead ones are locked, right? If it's not locked, then it should still be fair game for posting.

As for a thread being a year old - Sometimes those are the best ones to read, especially, when there is follow up or good feedback later on. I read a lot of things where people claim this or that, but I want to know about longevity. There are lots of "fixes" that last a few weeks, but I want to know if it's still fixed a year from when it happened, 2 years, 5 years, or more. I have things I've fixed 8-9 years ago on my truck that are still working today. In my opinion, those are valuable lessons and I can give information to someone else with similar issues and know I had good results that lasted.

If we're not supposed to search, then the administrators should remove the feature. If we can search, but not comment after the thread has been idle for more than 24 hours, then they should be disabled after that time frame has passed.

Yes, I'm ranting.

On another note - I have no idea what this guy is complaining about - ix3oh3xi. I agree with Explicit_Spade on his comment. What in the world does someone expect out of a 15 year old pump? E_S is right in that it's NOT GM's fault.

I get a loud whine when i turn to the left or right....seems to be louder when turning left. And louder at slow speeds. I was initially thinking bad tires....but leaning more toward the power steering. Its pretty quiet when in park and turning the wheel. Have yet to check the steering fluid level.

I change my power steering pump, both lines, the rubber hoes that go to the pump, and my rack and pinion and i could turn with one finger

after replacing my rack and pinion, and my power steering pump, my power steering still growls at me! :( Tried turning lock to lock and adding fluid... Still the growl.. Only other option I'm left with is replacing all the lines.. Are there any other tips or something I might be missing?

FOr anyone who needs to get a new ps pump, DO NOT get it from AUTOZONE. I am on my 2nd pump from them. First pump from them made the steeering hard at low speed. 2nd pump from them replaced under warranty and it wines on turns. If it was not such a PIA to change, I would have changed it out with a "BARELY USED" ps pump from a salvage yard.
My original pump worked fine, but it leaked bad, I should have just put new seals in the darn thing instead of getting one from AUTOZONE!

sorry to hear of you pump problems, but my autozone p/s pump is running strong and quiet for the last 2 years.

and its not that hard to change really.

I agree. I'm on my second one and its leaking out of the blue. Smh. It's a pain to replace these things (easy after a few tries) so I'm just refilling the fluids every few days until the weather gets Better. I guess this explains why they warranty everything lol.

When I had ps pump problems I bought a reman I think from Rockauto...if you wanna know the brand I can look it up. But I'll never order them again
