noise when i steer

there's a loud, whiney noise come from somewhere under the hood when i steer my car. the sharper the turn, the louder it is usually. also seems to happen more when going slow or stopped. any idea of what this is and how i can go about fixing it?

check your power steering fluid make sure there is enough in there
