• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

No start: Fuel pump or resistor perhaps?

'97 GTP with 180k. Haven't had any past issues, car decided not to run after shutting off at a gas station, it was raining pretty good and I really didn't have time/tools to check much but there was at least some pressure at the rail when I pressed the schrader valve in. It actually DID start and die almost instantly and would not rev up at all, bogged down with throttle. I had it towed home. Car didn't start after the tow. I want to say it did not start every time. I came back the next day and it fired right up and has been starting consistently and runs like a raped ape. Fuel pump is rather loud and always has been, I don't remember hearing it when it "died" but it had to be working at least somewhat. No stored DTCs.

I checked the resistance of the Fuel pump resistor: 1 ohm, anyone have a spec? I really don't see how it could work intermittently. If unplugged, the car will start every time and die after 4-5 seconds, will rev up so I'm kinda ruling this out now.

Should I be throwing a fuel pump at this? Any other ideas? I will clean the MAF. Anyone have a good source for one without the whole module? Will GM sell one without the module? P#? I'd appreciate any input besides: Dumb redneck at SA: "Dude your timing belt jumped time, I know cuz I just rebuilt one of these." :th_coocoo:

Other info: I believe this car must have had a fuel pump resistor recall done at one time. It is mounted on the firewall right above the engine with a metal cover over it, vs passenger fender. Nearly new fuel filter.

Crank sensor?

they should be audable at prime, but not loud

Pump sounds like it always has at the moment, the sound of the pump is not really telling me anything. I wish I had access to a scope. I beat the crap out of the car for a while tonight and I can't get it to not restart. I will call the dealer tomorrow and see if a replacement pump w/o module is available. I'm hoping to take the car out of state this weekend without issues.

Side note: Tach bounces Key-on, engine off, has ever since I've owned it. I just figured it was some interference with a past remote start tach-signal. Just makes me question CPS or ICM...

mine died the other day -- the only warning I got was a lean surge before parking it at a clients. came out and no start. mine was easy to figure out since I had zero pressure at the rail and no burrrr of the pump when turning the ignition on. I pulled pin 85 or 87 on the fuel pump relay to bypass the resistor and still nothing. had to have it towed home as well. I measured the power leads (gray and black on my 98) and there's power for 2 or so seconds on key on.

anyway --- I ended up buying a Delphi off amazon for $204, which was about $140, at least, cheaper than I could get it in town --- and quite a bit off rockauto. I'm supposed to get it Wed so the wife doesn't have a car until then.

Dealer price will be shocking -- to say the least.

you can get a decent pump at a junkyard, but ive found a pump on amazon that is $70 bucks. made in thailand.

Confirmed it needs a pump. Died randomly and completely today, 0 pessure at the rail. Thanks for the heads up on Amazon! Dealer price was a bit shocking: $399 with my discount, Retail: $572 I really don't want to put a cheap pump in this one, but I might go with a quality pump from online (if they even exist) and reuse the module if I can.

Do you have the $70 pump? No issues? No S/C pumps at the local junkyards. They consider the early build '97 pumps a bit different?
