next go fast mod ?

What should my next go fast mod be ? I have a 2004 impala SS. First off I'll be waiting for my tranny to grenade before saving up for one from triple edge. I have two other vehicles doo down time is no big deal. Now my current mods are 3.5 mps, wizaired via, 180 tstat, spotlight 104's mail order tune from overkill. 3" zzp catted downpipe, zzp plog. I was thinking rockers but not sure which ones and where to get them. Maybe moded 1.9's ? No cam for me. Then i want to get a full size intercooler after.

In my eyes, doing rockers arent worth the cost.

Paid hundreds of dollars for maybe a few horsepower and sliiiiiiiiightly better top end feel on the butt dyno.

I would play with the tune personally and get more out of the car, but you don't have that ability.

Get the intercooler.

The extra torque from the smaller pulley is by far so much more fun than the slightly less crappy top end you'll get from rockers.

Downside is the intercooler will set you back 1500. About three times that of rockers. Unless you opted for rollers, which are quite a bit more once they're all said and done.

True it's a lot but worth it! I plan on being safe and just go with a 3.4 or 3.3 pulley. Then would I or should I send my com back to overkill to get reprogrammed ? Any other supporting mods I'd have to get ? I don't really want headers they suck to put in.

Question 1: do you have E85?

Question 2: would you run it if you could?

Question 3: do you daily drive the car? IMO Intercoolers suck and are like a high maint woman. Always need attention and they are hit or miss seems like just about as many people that have unexpected issues with them as the ones that don't.

Question 4: Cost of an IC is comparable to doing a cam swap by the time you add in gaskets fluids ect. All said and done CAM>IC every day all day!

Question 5: Hp goals and what do you want out of the car?

Question 6: why havnt you cammed already? You have a nice list of mods already cam sure makes a lot of sense to me............

Doesn't want to put headers in but its on your mod list? I don't get it I promise you headers are cake compared to an IC setup. Just sayin!

What?

Header install is more straight forward than an intercooler install.

The intercooler kits for these cars are pretty redneck. You're hacking something up, or leaving something off. Then there is the hose routing. Choices, choices, choices. With headers, it's just remove and replace.

Intercoolers also seem to last 3-6 years or so before they start to leak. Remember: they're just plates that house a heater core.

You shouldn't need a tune either, but that's mostly on a test it and see basis.

3: They're not bad if you plan it out right, hence my comments about the install taking a damn long time. Also never use Garleaks, always use RTV.

4: VS cam can be done for under $1000.

L76 springs vs 105s or 130s.

Doubler roller w/machined crank gear vs new stock set.

Stock LSx retainers vs modded ones.

Stock valve seal vs shorter ones.

So I could do a complete cam swap for around a grand.. that's not bad. Could I run a 3.3 pulley with slim to non chances of getting kr ? Also with the vs cam would I want to have it returned? Anything else needed ?

Looks like a have a few options for cams for my impala. Hmmm which one for a dd I run 91 octane drive in the winter and I'm not looking to beat my h/c/I '98 Camaro z28. I'd like decent smooth idle.

Depends on the cam, and what you eventually deem necessary.

Some would say a VS just needs L76 springs, retainers and a new timing chain/dampner. The other extreme is an XP cam needs 130s, and a double roller with a machined crank gear.
