Newer GT S/C Mods

Hey, I just joined sight after detail searching the net with no luck for "info"

I have a 2006 Grand Prix GT2 3.8 series iii, Supercharged.

First, how do I find performance parts ect...? they all seem to be for
"pre 2000" GP's.

Second, I want to make mods, but am unsure of what... and what first.

Any help is good help.

Thanks.

..first question, where do you want to go with the car? do you want a street beater than you can run out some ricers or do you want a corvette stomping FWD beast?

decide what you want and then we can tell you what you need to get there.

I would like to tap into her potential for street use... it's my main vehicle... but ya know... goal = proud to open the hood or the throttle without being "all show no go"

make sense?

yeah, so youre looking for something entertaining to drive on the street while keeping reliability. that sounds exactly like the common 3.4 pulley setup, but with your genV supercharger you might need a bigger pulley.

i recommend you look into these items:

tuned PCM
180* thermostat
autolite 104s
ZZP powerlog
3" downpipe (bolt in w/ubend delete)
3.5 supercharger pulley

thatll give you roughly 240-250 whp and the ability to run a mid 13 at the track if you know how to launch the car. if that leaves you wanting more, you know where to ask. ;)

This is exactly the advice I'm looking for...

Now if it's not too much. is it possible I can get an explanation of why each of these mods.. in relation to their "stock" counterparts... also "where to buy"

Knowledge is power.

As for what they will do:
Pcm-higher shift points, better fueling tables, sooner fan turn on and much more
180 tstat- help it run cooler
autolite 104's (spark plugs)- One heat range cooler than stock (not need untill pulley drop)
Powerlog- Replace the factory front exhaust manifold
down pipe- replace factory down pipe and removes u-bend in exhuast (not sure if the 04+ have a u-bend
3.5 inch pulley (recommend the multi pulley system for when the mod bug bites again) gives you more boost (should be the last thing you get on the list)

maybe a a set of headers if its in your budget, and a pcm would wake that thing up.
1. A tuned pcm depending on who does it will get rid of stock factory settings (DONT GET A CHIP! there worthless). like speed limiter, raised shift points, slightly harder shifting (so the clutches last longer). um some get rid of the torque abuse mode so that you can launch harder.

2. 180* thermostat is colder then stock (stock 195*) this will help keep kr (knock retard) or detonation down. also people say gas mileage will go down a bit, but it allows you more security if you go down a pulley size.

3. autolite 104 spark plugs are a colder plug then stock and help keep kr are down.

4. a larger downpipe then the stock one will free up hp and also keep kr down because of less restriction.

5. a zzperformance powerlog or plog is a aftermarket front exhaust manifold that is better then porting a stock exhaust manifold. just like the downpipe you get better exhaust flow and it helps keep kr down.

6. a 3.5 supercharger pulley is 3 sizes smaller then the stock pulley (stock is 3.8 inches across) this will increase boost but you cant just put a pulley on with out supporting modds like everything listed above or you will see increased kr and to much of that and you can say bye bye to your motor.

hope that helps

ok awesome...

so I am to assume that knowing "about" knock retard is a good idea and avoiding it while making upgrades is my plan?

so can anyone explain knock retard? does it have anything to do with burn quality or octain?

-- I do know a thing or two about engines.. just might be the way things are said throwing me off is all.

knock retard is good esentially. it stops your car from actually knocking by decreasing timing. but yes, the more KR you have the more likely you are to chip a piston.

knock can also be called 'pinging'.

there is scan tools to measure KR. droping pullies i would look into one.

the point of the mods (besides the pullie) is to free up air flow with the engine, thus reducing KR and allowing you to drop pullies.

exhaust frees up air flow along with internails. rockers, cam, bigger heads.

pullie is the last mod you want to put on.

After reading up on the Octane thread, I would suggest you look for yourself some type of scanner for your car. Something to monitor what is going on with the engine and such. My favorite has always been the Aeroforce Interceptor gauges. They're slightly expensive, but you'll thank yourself for getting one. You can always see what's going on, and you'll know where your limit on mods are.

06gt2s/c keep us informed when you get this done im looking to do the same mods if i cant find a decently cheap gxp to have fun with

I will look up that scanner... looks like a good idea.

I will have to take my time with these upgrades as I'm gonna be saving up one peice at a time.

I'll be posting when I get stuff done, with pics and such.

i would start off with an intake (you can make your own for cheap, just try and run it into the fenderwell, or tdc has a real nice FWI for cheap) but you can hear the supercharger scream then. a MUST HAVE first mod i would say. then i would do power-log or downpipe next. then thermestat, plugs, tune and 3.5 and enjoy :D

with the intake and exhaust tho it will pick up some performance till you can drop pullies.

something to kind of keep you excited till you get your pullie
