Hello All,

Glad I found your forum, I don't really have a repair question or issue right now. And I didn't find any thread on what I am looking for so here goes. Right now I have a 99 Grand Am SE, and my wife loves it. I thinks its a great car and its plenty fast for her, I am a member of the grand am forum and found a lot of great information for her car as hers had issues when we bought it. And by browsing the topics you have I know that there is just as much great information available......But now its my turn, and I am looking for information on a GXP. What I am looking for is your personal real world expirence with your GXP, how it ride, issues that have come up, your actual mileage. That is when you don't have your foot in it. I look forward to hearing from you!

I don't own one myself, but from being on the forums for several years, and around a few in person, here is what I've gathered of the top of my head.

Pros:

As with all '04+ Grand Prix' (gen 7), the fit, finish and quality of materials in the interiors is nicer than the '97 - '03 (gen 6).
The GXP offers the nicest brakes out of any w-body, I believe.
It also has the most powerful stock motor/faster stock than the GTP.
The slight GXP specific cosmetic changes make it look nicer than the regular gen 7 GPs.

Cons:

A much smaller aftermarket than the 3800 motors. You can make the V6s quicker than the GXP, and for a lot less than it would cost to mod the V8.
The transmissions are notorious for not being able to handle even the stock power for very long, let alone modded.
GM messed up big time by making the car a FWD.

i love my gxp, the reality is that the trans is garbage. if you have the money to do a built trans then the car is pretty much bullet proof. ls series motors have been proven time and time again. also much of the ls1,2,6 stuff will bolt up to the ls4 with little modification. there is a complete turbo kit for the gxp, brining it to close to 500hp at the wheels. get a trans 1st. like i said. i am completely in love with my car. also go over to gmls4.net and talk to some of those guys. it is a dedicated forum to gxp, impala ss, and monte ss. all sharing the ls4/4t65e-hd lay out.

Thank you all for the great information, this will be very helpful. I will go check out the other sights, for more info.

I don't have a GXP. I have an 04 Base with an 05 GTP engine/trans/cradle transplant. Love it. Anyway, I have only seen 1 GXP in person and have never drove one. I really like the set up though. Post some pics of your ride.
