NEW use for an engine hoist!!!!

After telling my father in law about watching a show called good-eats and the safety factors in deep frying a turkey, I tried using a ladder as suggested in the show to hold a board and hook to hang the turkey over the fry pot and let the oil drip off and allow it to cool down a bit. Tonight I fried another bird before the game started and he was standing next to me looking at my folded up engine hoist and after I told him about the ladder he said Well that looks like your set over there! I looked over at the folded up hoist and we laughed, then I thought now THAT is a great idea!!! If only I thought of that for dropping IN the bird lol. Those that have tried deep frying a turkey know what I am talking about here..... The oil just wants to go everywhere and there you are stuck holding the bird over 350 deg oil! After the bird was gone I fried up some chicken wings by dropping them in with the hoist and laughed as it worked so well lol. Score ONE for redneck engineering in my garage tonight!!!

Dont give him any ideas

Naaa, that is what the smoker out back is for :D Yeah I thought it was pretty funny too and after I used it I thought damn I should have done this years ago!

I love Good Eats and the science spin. That's funny too funny Dave. You need to send Alton that picture. Now I have to ask, you didn't cook that turkey in your garage did you?

Lee of course I cooked it in my garage! Im suprised it took this long for that one to pop out lol. The trick is DO NOT EVER use a fryer in the garage with the door shut and drink!!!!!!!! If you think of it this way it is no different than using a forced air fuel powered heater such as kerosene or propane to heat a garage and most people dont have any type of ventilation and dont know the risks. I always have the door partly opened with plenty of air moving around to keep the fumes out. I used to use the fryer outside and it really was a hassle as we often have terrible weather around thanksgiving and xmas so I opted for having at least 3 walls around me, the garage floor is also much easier to clean up as it is very smooth and sealed. Safety is #1 no matter where you use one though and common sense keeps you out of trouble ;)
