New to tuning - any tips - DHP

Having some weird issues with DHP 1.2.4. I am unable to do any partial tunes. It usually fails on the reset and ill have to try to write again a few times for it to complete connection. When this happens most of the gauges and service lights flash through then leaving a blank cluster with only lights. Anyways Ive successfully written a bin about 4-5 times.

I made a long scan and imported it into the table modifier along with the bin's maf table. I then exported it with the basic settings, imported into bin and the wrote the bin to the car. When I looked through the old maf table compared to the modified table there was very little to no change. Some values only changed .0X and the rest none at all. There were also some that had a bit more of a change.

I am unable to get powerscanner to work at all it just gives me an error in either starting or when loading the pids. UVScanner2 has worked for me with scanning but when I goto PCM Tools and click on LFTF-reset nothing happens at all.

|Any other tips to help me tweak?

Uninstall everything: DHP, Dot Net 1.1 or whatever versions you installed, restart computer then follow these directions:

1) Make sure everything is uninstalled
2) Download Dot Net 1.1 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26
3) Restart
4) Install DHP
5) Find the powertuner application, right click it, set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3 and Run As Administrator.

It should work, DHP works great on my window 7, 8, 8.1 and Windows 10 Tech Preview installed so no reason it shouldn't work.

Something seems off. It just seems that sometimes the pcm isn't communicating properly. When I try to start a write sometimes it stops at waiting for PCM to restart and waiting for the write sometimes fails. Usually unplugging the avt and restarting dhp works after a few times. Very quirky.

Anyways im trying to upload my 3rd maf tune to see if I can dial the trims in. I have a cpl questions 1)doesn't this affect my AFR? 2)how long a scan to use for the table modifier thingie?

You can't be making this many adjustments in so short a time period. Making adjustments to a pcm before the fuel trims have been relearned is asking for trouble

your issues maybe cause your reading and writing via the car. 04 up have known issues with dhp. why most like to use a off board, its much safer and acts way more stable.

Make sure you take out the radio fuse when writing, some have been known to brick pcms with dhp due to this reason.

Im driving at least 40 minutes to let the trims settle in before I make any changes. I scan during the 40 min of driving 4 times after the 3 restarts. This way I can keep track of when the trims change. On the final start I scan and drive a min 20 min for a scan log to run in the modifier.

it sounds like you are doing it correctly, but this is a good example of the blind leading the blind. what happened to me was that I ended up leaning the fuel too much and induced kr because of the lean condition, I had to revert back to a bin file I had from before all the adjustments. now I am tuning with overkill and sending scans to him, so the tune is progressing much better.

Yah Sgt I'm tuning with will also but waiting on the fuel trim change. I figured I'd try it out too. most everything is in check except cell low rpms

I cant get the trims to settle in. Ran the program 3-4 times. There has been some improvement but I have a few areas under cruise throttle and speeds that are +3 to +6 Everything else seems better. WOT is anywhere from -1 to -3. Is it making things harder to tune since im only running the upstream 02 and not a downstream?

pcm only uses the upstream o2 sensor for data. downstream o2 is only a on/off or working/not working signal. I would take some good scans and send them to overkill for him to adjust
