• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

New to the front drive world

I just picked up my brothers 98GTP 2 door since I am tired of riding my shovelhead year round in NC. I am deployed right now in Afghanistan, but should be home in 2 months, Hell yea!! The car runs great but a leak from somewhere around the firewall has ruined the carpet, and the headliner needs replaced since he was sloppy with his cig butts. I hope to learn a lot on here and fix this thing up a little. Gage

welcome,

a common water leak is the drain-age from the rain not being able to flow out and away from the cabin filter area and thus water leaks into the car and makes the carpet all wet.

Welcome, my brother is over there too. He thinks he should be getting his R&R in Nov. I haven't been able to talk to him for over a month though:(

I have read about every kind of water leak on these cars from the sunroof to the windshield, the box under the wipers and so on. I am going to get home and sit in it while he runs a hose over the car and see if I can pin point it.

i can almost promise you its the water leak under the windshield cowl thing. it's a $3 part from the dealer. as soon as you remove the cowl you will see the failure. my rubber seal was just hanging off.

do this. be done with it. http://www.grandprixforums.net/water-floorboard-take-2-permanent-fix-6961.html
yep, if it's on the passenger side, coming from near the top of the carpet, that's most likely what it is. It's a very easy fix, and works great. I checked my car after fixing it, after the hardest rain I've ever seen in my life, and there wasn't a drop inside the car.

Also welcome!

There's a lil rubber nipple thing that gets plugged on the passengers side firewall that causes the water to back up. Pull it off clean it out and put it back on. Simple fix.

Its basically a downspout for water from your cowl. Weather it be condensation from the AC or rain water.

And while you're replacing said cowl thingy, you might as well throw in a cabin air filter and keep out all the little gremlins and goblins and dust mites that make you sneeze or whatever. Had to bend it a little to fit in there, but there is a place for it to sit even though our cars didn't come with a cabin filter from the factory.

I appreciate all the help, I have always had a GTO or something from the 50's but I think I am going to have a lot of fun with this car. Once I get back to the states and don't have restrictions on the interwebs I will post some pictures. Does anyone make a replacement headliner for these things, and what is the benefit of a GenV supercharger over the one on the car now?

For headliner replacement, the most cost effective option is to pull the old head liner out, and recover it with material of your choice from a fabric store.

Isn't there a discussion on why cabin filters weren't included on some brand new cars, including my 2001 GTP. I believe that it actually causes something to heat up, sorry for being vague but I am that way all the time :th_laugh-lol3:
