Hello, I am currently new to this forum, been mostly on the Ram Forum due to me owning a 99 dodge ram. I currently now own a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 V6 GT. It has no muffler and the Power steering pump is shot. I have the pump yet I have no idea on were it's located at. I tried every books, youtube and called every dealership yet none have given me the correct information. It is really cold outside so I can't install it just yet, Also I just drove it and the heat was working wonderfully, I shut the engine off to go into a store and started the car up again and the heat just stop. Also my windshield washer fluid seems to be frozen, there is liquid in it but it's not spraying like it should. Can everyone help me with these inquiries. The only thing I will not do myself is the muffler but everything else I can do myself if it's not to hard to figure out.. Thank you for your effort and help in advance..

Though this picture is of the supercharge motor, the power steering pump is in the same spot.

the power steering pump is the large pulley under the alt.

jack and suppoert the right front of the car, take the pass front wheel off. remove the 2 lines form the bottom of the pump via the wheel well, have a pail hand, what ever is left in the pump will drain out.

theres a hole in the pulley, with a 13 mm socket and a 3 inch extension locate the 2 bolts at the 12 and 6 o clock areas. remove them. you may need to remove the alt and the coolant reservoir if you have one there for room, and pull the dog bone mounts off the rad support and move the engine so you can wiggle it out.

once its out, YOU NEED a GM power steering pulley puller. this tool removes it, and puts it back on, they rent or sell them at the parts store.

swap your pulley onto the new pump, re install it. fill it with new fluid.

the part in the far left is the pump, this is from a water pump change. it has to un bolted to get the pump off.

and back on.

Thanks Scottydogg

Takes about 2 quarts of Power steering fluid correct. And can you help with the other portions of my soon nightmare

yes, the belt has to come off, thats easy. use a 15 mm socket wrench on the tentioner set the socket to turn the nut and pulley in away from the outside of the belt. this take sthe pressure off the belt, slide it off a small pulley, like the alt.

to get it back on, theres a diagram on the front strut tower showing the belt routing.

its not that hard really. it was one of my first repairs to my car. first time working on a transverse engine too. it looks like theres just not enough room to do a thing, but there is, i wear size 3 x gloves. aka huge hands, and i get it there just fine.

a quart should be enough, you'll need a long funnel to fill it with.

You think it be wise to change the water pump as well, since I currently do not know what really this car needs. Has 167k miles so I don't really know what the conditions of everything is. I do know that the front case that says 3800 is really loose

water pump cost like 40 bucks, cant hurt for piece of mind while your there. theres 4 long bolts, they need plumbers thread sealant re applied on the threads before you put them back in so they dont leak coolant.

clean the mating surfaces good with a a razor and install the new w/p with a dry gasket.

if your doing the pump loosen the 4 small bolts on the water pump pulley before removing the belt. snug them up when done, then tighten them good once the belt is back on. other wise its a fight to break them free.

may as well do the coolant elbows too http://www.grandprixforums.net/showthread.php?t=49779&highlight=change+coolant+elbows

watch the shipping with them, sometimes they split your order up and hit you twice or 3 times for each parts shipping.

try advance auto too, google discount codes. buy on line, pick up local. same day in your hand.

the heat. need more info.

the washer tank pump, if its frozen when it thaws pump it out by spraying the widshield till empty, then re fill with washer fluid so it dont freeze on you.

if its not a frozen tank the pump is bad, you take the plastic wheel well liner off, like 1/2 of it, unscrew the screws that hold it to the outer fender, then reach in and unplug it, then pull the pump out of the bottom of the washer tank.

pretty sure if you pop the pass side head light out you can see, and reach it also.

The heat was working nice, I stopped the engine turned it back on and it won't turn on. tried every dial and it won't start I can hear a clicking noise underneath the glove box when you try turning it on. just hope it's not the heater core cause that's the reason I sold my truck

so the fans not spinning at all? the resistor is a common failure, it located behind the fan. its under the pass side cardboard floor protector.

or the fan maybe bad, or the fuse blew.

or if the clicking sound its like a card in a bike spoke, maybe something fell out of the glove box and landed in the fan. its happened before.

Sorry to bump this but I was wondering Scottydoggs if you knew the number of the fuse for the heater or blower. Tried looking by the door panel and I'm not seeing any layouts for the heater. Tried doing a quick google and the only number I found was #22.

Just want to be careful due to my previous truck the I.O.D. Fuse ( Ignition off Drain ) blew and I must have short circuit the entire fuse box, Radio stopped and dome lights stopped. tried changing #17 in my truck and got shocked and then it started smoking and smelled burnt wires when the engine was hot. Forgot to turn the key off and unplug the battery and wait for the discharge.

So if you can help would be greatly helpful want to see if it's the fuse, motor or the resistor
