New to me 2008 Grand Prix GXP (LS4) with questions

just out of curiosity, is there a way to tell when the afr/dod is starting to fail?

I just requested to join that group.

Either the lifters get really loud, start clacking or they just fail and stick.

It's kind of a toss up on when something will happen. It's best to just turn it off or you can leave it on if you have a warranty. Who knows if something went real south you might be a whole new camshaft for free lol.

I kind of wonder if they would put in an LS6 cam and LS7 lifters, at least then the dod/afr problem would be solved, not that there is one now. my concern is that if I turn it off, which would be easy, would the aftermarket programming void the warranty? not knowing, and probably not being able to get a straight answer from the people that do know would cause hesitation for me.

Doubtful that they would ever be able to know. They would have to dig deep to ever find out that you tuned it.

Unlike the new 2014+ computers that will show up straight away when a technician plugs in the GM scan tool, it will show a change to the calibration and thus void all power train warranty.
