New to me,,,1996 with NO KEYS,,,,,

Hello,,All, I just inherited a really nice 1996 Grand Prix,,,but she has lost the keys, so I can't get it home. She tells me the fuel pump had quit and the back window had crystalized (sp) and shattered, So,,she just parked the car!! It has a 3.1 V6 auto with 92,321 carefully driven miles. No biggie so far,,,,, except for the missing keys.
My plans are to see if the fuel pump in this model is accessable from under the back seat instead of having to pull the gas tank.
I have located a 1998 and a 1997 Grand AM that the back glass looks to be similar to my 1996 Grand Prix,,any suggestions on this one,,??
Now for the biggie,,,I'm hoping to look into removing the ignition cylinder and get a locksmith to make a key,,,does the door and deck lid take a different key than the ignition,,,?? Or is this a "transponder" type of ignition key,,???
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Hello!

I represent KeyNet.com, an online store for transponder keys, fobiks and remotes for most makes and models.
I came across your forum post and thought that maybe we could help with your missing key issue.
You can go here:
http://www.keynet.com/grand-prix-1996/
to see what we offer for the 1996 Grand Prix - that type of key is what's known as VATS Key - the chip is on the blade rather than inside the plastic head.
For programming, we recommend using local locksmiths, they generally have access to the programming codes and are usually MUCH cheaper than dealerships.

Hope this helps, good luck!

if you bring the title with you in your name, or the last owners can do this if not been bought yet, show the dealer the vin they will cut you a new key with the proper vat ohm chip in the key. for any where from 30 to 75 bucks, depends on where you live in the country it seems.

normal a new key needs to be learned with the old key, but a 96 might not need this. 97 up does for sure.

I am extremely sorry for this issue, we were in meetings most of the day, no excuse and no way to do business - should have had the phones transferred to my cell, again, I do apologize.
