I just bought a 2001 gtp , i have always wanted one and sold my bmw to get it however after driving it for a couple days i have notice a pretty good shutter when i exellerate . The transmission shifts smooth and the engine runs great, if feels more like something in the front end. I took it to Carx today and they said my control arm is bent so i went ahead and ordered a new one . My question is could a control arm be causing this or could it possible be something else? thanks for any info.

thought i would share some pics... i always wanted a black on black gtp and since i have kids the wife said it had to be a 4 door.

if your control arm is bent you would sure be getting some vibration at speed. You should be able to look under the front of the car and visually check yourself. That usually only happens if you run over something.

ya the little turd i bought it from must have run the car off the road the bent the oil pan as well , but its not leaking so im not so worried about it at the moment.

Couple of things... Alignment and wheel balancing check, you know how long ago an alignment was done? If a weight comes off the wheel you can get same effect. Then... What about the suspension? Struts/springs age? Mileage? This can also cause vibration (worn mounts). You could also inspect you tranny and engine mounts and make sure they are ok cause if gone, the geometry of the front end is off and causes vibration. And of course, yes, the control arm(s) could be bent but would take one helluva hit to make that happen. Good news is they are cheap and easy to replace entirely new! Just look at everything first before shotgunning parts at a problem. :)

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

ding ding ding, they must have ran off the road or hit something because I see the nose piece is cracked on the passanger side, that must be the side with the bent arm.

it has 148 grand on it i have no idea how long it has been since the shocks and struts were changed , i havnt had the engine or tranny mounts checked , and the side that is bent according to the shop is the drivers side . As far as alignment i can take my hands off the wheel and it runs strait down the road. the only visable thing i have seen without getting under the car is a ding in the drivers front wheel . I noticed the cracked nose piece but almost everyone that i have looked at has that and i just assumed it was from curbing it.

One other question since im new to pontiac , were all of the gtps speced the same ? mine came with the bose system heads up display , heated drivers seat , traction control and onstar.

My bmw got totalled by a construction company that left a man hole sticking our of the ground and it ripped the entire underside of my car out. I wanted a car that was cheaper to repair and a little roomier for the price. Its a very comfortable car for my family and powerfull . Sure the fit and finish isnt quite the same as a bmw but it cost a hell of alot less money that a beemer i could get for the same price with a ton more miles.

nates94 , i looked at a 94 model as well with the same milage and liked it but i wanted something with a little more room and extras . I have always wanted the W body style . I think they look great with the ws6 hood , i think thats what its called.

I like my 91 GT, but I wouldn't want one of those to haul the family around. The 97+ GTP sedans are really nice. I have owned one before and I loved it. Very powerful and I love the sound of the supercharger.

Ya the supercharger was a big selling factor , i wanted something that i could get more power out of with very little work and alot of my friends have had the 3.8 both supercharged and NA and everyone said that the 3.8 is a super solid almost bullit proof engine.

so i finally got to the bottom of the shaking in the front end . my control arm wasnt bent nor was my sub frame . After 4 different shops and 4 different explainations i took it up to my cousin an hour and a half away and it took him 5 minutes to tell me my wheel bearings where smoked. So we went ahead and replaced the bearings and since we were in there i did the axles and tie rod ends as well . Now its like butter on the interstate. It just goes to show just because someone works at a shop doesnt mean that know jack about what they are doing . Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys its nice to have somewhere to go when i have questions.
