New to GM,

GPGT4dr

New member
Howdy all, I'm new to GM, but I've been turning wrenches since I was old enough to hold one, and today my wife and I bought our first GM product - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, black, 4 door, 3800 S2 engine. I can't say enough good things about it (besides the inherent window motor/regulator issues).

I've got a few small things about the car I'd like to fix, as in the rear windows not working :/ But I'm familiar with the search function, and not afraid to use it!!! At any rate, I'll probably lurk around until I get a feel for the place, so don't mind me :D

Indeed! All I need to do is get some wheels and if I can find a body kit that is tasteful enough, then that's all I'm gonna do to it. Should be nice. Any stats on these things? I'm gonna wiki it and see what all I can come up with. Thanks!

wheels are nice
some types of spoilers are nice, same with some hoods and roof rails
not so much a fan of any thing else on these cars

this will help if your looking into any gosofastmods:th_laugh-lol3:
but serioulsy check the link out lol
Gofaststuff is on hold until I get a more stable job (something other than B/S/T (buy/sell/trade)), and as far as body kits, I meant something along the lines of a good lip/diffuser for the front, even if I have to work with my CarbonKreations buddy and make something from Fglass, or CF (if money and time approves :D) I'll look into the Gofaststuff eventually, but if the wife catches me, I'll get my gobs lobbed off.

What's the lug pattern so I can look for some decent wheels on CL?

hi.

no body kits evar.

And it needs some new headlights, amazon or rockauto has em for around 70 bucks for the pair.

I looked at them, and it's residue on the outside, hardly any on the outside, so I'm going to try wetsanding/buffing/polishing the headlights and see if that helps any. I'm looking for a NON-rice looking set of 1pc (if available) halo/HID lights.

Plans thus far, since the car is black, are to plasti-dip certain body parts, give it a matte look in contrast to the gloss paint. We are the second owners, the other owner had it new since '99, and took according care of it. All work has been done by GM thus far, still has the original owners booklet, and a lot of the original stuff. Still looking for an original window sticker so I can display it once the car is show-ready to my standards.

I'm still researching (and hopped up on Monsters :D), and the only issues that I've seen, besides the hazed headlights, is that only one fog works, I still don't know how to tell if it has HUD, and neither rear window works. One just doesn't work, and the other is off track :/.

I've got my work cut out for me, but for a car, with all dealer-serviced maintenance, (and nearly 200k miles :O), we only paid 3995.00, and that's after tags/ins/doc fees.

Sorry for the long-winded post, but refer to my Monster comment, and you'll understand why. I'll keep everyone updated once I get some stuff done to it, but as for now, I'm just on Wiki-mode.

id say just start with some rims and see from there
ive seem plasti dip in person and it works wonders lol
and for that many miles looks to be in pretty good shape
i used the 3M kit from walmart worked very well on my old headlights before the projectors i have now

That's what I was going to use, the 3M kit. I worked at walmart aka Hell, blew my l6, and got fired for getting hurt. Gotta love it! Sad part is, after a 3 year stint in the Army, jumping out of PERFECTLY good airplanes, getting blown up, and all the other wonderful occupational hazards the Military has to offer, and I get messed up permanently at Walmart...

Is the lug pattern 5x100 or 5x114.3? If so, I can find wheels all day long, just might be more difficult if it's one of those oddball sizes.

Anyone know of a not-obnoxious exhaust? I like a low rumble, but not so much of the snap/crackle/pop. No farty-blap for lack of a better term. I know it won't sound like a V8 without swapping (not in my future....evar!), but I want it to be rumbly-snarl.

alot of people will probably say get headers and take out your res in place for a glasspack and stock mufflers. i would say...borla mufflers along with headers. just look up some exhuast clips on youtube. and yeah the bolt patter is 5x115 but 5x114.3 work as well.

i like my magnaflows
and im sorry about walmart and apreciate the service
and i think the pattern is 115x5 but dont quote me on that:th_jester:

No problem man, just a job. I'll listen whenever I move my newborn to the bedroom.

Not wanting to go all out. Just wanting a set of mufflers/tips. It's got plenty of power for me and my family :). I've been looking at a set of Hyundai Genesis. 19's, here's a pic:

The resonator removal might be something I wind up doing, I may put a cherrybomb in place of it since the length of the pipe, and the mufflers will take out a lot of the rasp. I did it on my Escort, and it sounded good, not ricey.

I gotta fix my P0171 CEL first. No issues running, so it might just be the MAF or vac (hoping for that instead of an o2 sens.)

just one thing to note.

our bolt pattern is 115x5

and 19" have the fewest and most exspensive choice of tires out there. You will get raped with no lube.

I'd personally go 18's befor 19's.

First off: Kickarse name. FFDP is one of my favorite groups of this era.

I usually get my tires off of Tirerack.com, but agreed, I have a set of 18's on my escort, and the tires on it were plenty expensive as it is. I had 20's on my S10 and being 275/45/20's, (Nitto NT555's), that was ass rapage as it was.

I'll probably get whatever is inexpensive and looks the best.
