New Struts question

I think i should be ok... Does anyone know what would need to be transferred over from the old struts... I know probably that rubber accordion thing and thsts all I can think of

I think someone mentioned this before but there are several wear items that should be replaced or at least I did when doing mine. E.g. Strut, strut boot, strut mount, coil spring insulator. I believe that's it but I would need to check my receipts later to be sure since its been a while. I reused my old springs when I did mine. The KYBs (GR2) will not accept the original GM boot so that's why I ordered new ones. Actually my old boots were fine and a are far superior to the ones KYB sells. Not sure if they have improved.

btw, the rubber accordion thing is the boot.

I knew someone said something about it but I didn't know exactly what the wearable parts were so thank for explaining. Coil spring insulator... What is that

Actually there are two insulators. A lower and an upper. They basically isolate the spring from the metal strut body on the bottom and the strut mount from the top.

Here are the KYB part numbers when I ordered my KYB GR2s. Please double check their accuracy since I am going off of my notes from over three years ago. Btw, check Amazon, Rock Auto and even the Tire Rack when pricing individual parts out.

Front strut - 339015
Front strut mount - SM5568
Front strut insulator (upper) - SM5467
Front strut insulator (lower) - SM5437
Front strut boot - SB127

Hope it helps...

Thanks to SO much. This is exactly what I was looking for. It doesn't matter for driver or passenger side right?

No there is no difference in front from what I recall. The mounts in the rear are unique to each side though.

Rock now has KYB SM5568, which is the mount kit that includes the mounting plate, the bottom isolator, and the bearing (top isolator) for $23.79. Add in $58.79 for the strut and you're at $82.58 vs a completely assembled strut with new spring for $104.79. So for an extra $22.21 I get a new spring and don't have to fool with the compressor, etc.

With struts, front and rear mounts, boots, upper and lower insulator, and Springs comes out to 683... I think I might just get the quick because I really don't have that cash right now haha

Get all 4 KYB complete struts on Rock for like $400 plus shipping, use the 5% discount posted on the general forum

There are only the back two in kyb on rockauto. Should I get back kyb and front Monroe?

How did you like those... I'm kinda leaning towards KYB.

Amazon obviously has them but I can't check the part number becuase they aren't on rock auto.

I like them. Lots more control but not too harsh. For 97-03 fronts are sr4002, rt rear is sr4903, left rear is sr 4004.

I gotcha! Thank you very much. Gunna order the fronts off amazon and the backs off rock to save 20 bucks

I have the moogs all around and they feel great but its sitting a little high i am hoping they settle in.
If they do not i am going to put on some B&G springs.
