New Stereo

Ok, Just bought this car a little over a month ago (2000 GTP). It did not come w/ a stereo installed, I bought a decent Pioneer deck, but the antenna plug from the car is messed up. So what I have to do is Splice the Antenna wire from the car to an Adapter cable. Yes, I have tried 3 different adapters & can't get a signal from ANY station, how I tested it is, I cut one of the 3 adapter cables that I had bought & put the center copper wire to the end of the cars plug & sure enough I got every station. My question is this: When I splice the cables together, do I have to splice the Braided wires together or can I just leave them unattached & heat shrink over them?

Thanks

You should be soldering the cable although they do make both solder less and solder connectors (RadioShack) for that type of cable. The drain or shield/braided wire should be maintained as well... Easiest is solder less, best connection is to solder.
