New radio Install info

Hey guys, Im looking to get some information about an aftermarket radio. Still debating either to go with a double din or single din and Nav or no Nav. I read where if I remove the factory stereo I lose the door chime and onstar if you have it in this case I dont have onstar. Just wondering what kind of harnesses I need to maintain the steering wheel control volumes and the door chime. I know the factory radio has a 24pin connector and I believe a 6 pin for the steering wheel controls, do they sell a harness where I can just connect the harness from the aftermarket radio to the harness of the vehicle? Thanks

If you do not have the Monsoon system then the Gmos-01 wiring harness adapter is what you will need to maintain your chimes. If you have the Monsoon system ( then you have center dash speaker), you will require the GMOS-04 wiring adapter. As far as steering wheel controls you will need either the Axxexx ASWC or the PAC SWI- Jack ( for JVC, Alpine Clarion and Kenwood radios. or the PAC SWI-PS for Pioneer and sony radios. I recommend the Axxess for ease of programming, and should work with any brand of radio.

How can I tell if I have a monsoon or not, you mentioned something about a center speaker? The main harness looks easy just pair the colours together, the steering wheel controls will be getting the Axxess. For this it looks easy just connect the power and ground to the gmos-01 harness and connect the remote control wire to the back of the stereo harness if not using the Jack and then depending what wire gm uses I will connect it to the car wire that goes to the steering wheel buttons right? Question, do I tap into the smaller connect I believe it's a 12pin on the car oem harness. As of now with the old stereo there is a 24pin, 12pin and the antenna. Is the 12pin connector is that being used for the steering wheel control?

Monsoon system has a speaker in the center of the dash above the DIC. If you don't have a speaker on the dash then you don't have the Monsoon system. Pretty plain and simple. The axxess AWSC instructions should tell you how to connect everything. I know it is a tough concept to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.

Like I said the stock oem radio harness has a 12pin and a 24 pin, I know I will be using the 24pin connector but no where shows that I will be using the 12pin connector. What is that being used for now? Here is a picture of the oem harness http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=71-2003-1

I Followed the axxess instruction and looks pretty easy but where it says connect A6 to an 12v accessory wire, do they mean to a power that is always hot? Or hot when key is in ignition like they mention in step 2 below?

1) Connect the Black wire of the ASWC-1 to chassis ground.
2) Connect the Red wire of the ASWC-1 to a 12-volt accessory wire, one that turns on and off with the ignition key.
3) Connect the Yellow/Green wire of the ASWC-1 to pin A7 of the vehicle.
4) Connect A6 of the vehicles harness to a 12-volt accessory wire.
5) All other wires on the ASWC-1 please tape up, they will not be used.

You can just ignore the12 pin connector, you won't need anything in that harness.
Yes an accessory wire is one that turns on and off with the ignition, use the same wire you used from the GMOS-01 to the radio. You will prolly have 4 wires together, 1 from radio,1 from GMOS-01, 1 from Axxess AWSC, 1 from pin A6 of vehicle harness.
It will help if you have something like one of these

Also is there a way to pull out the pin of A6 and A7 from the connector or do I need to just cut it from the main harness

K thanks will order the stuff, thinking of getting a double din from eBay something like this http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=321464454076. It's not my main car so looking not to spend alot of money on a double din with Nav, If you look at the description and scroll down until you see the wiring cables, number 1 is the iso adapter, I won't use the adapter I guess I would cut the wires and use what is needed. Only issue is ordering a no name brand double din is that I guess it's possible that the steering wheel controls won't work as the axxess harness can't detect the model of the HU? I would need to contact the seller to see if SW1 and SW2 means steering wheel control. Thanks for all of your help so far

It's your money, but I myself would not buy something from HongKong, better to find something from your own country or better yet locally.

Okay cool, also I just read that the GMOS-01 features a right-angle 3.5mm connector that lets you keep your GM vehicle's OEM steering wheel controls via the optional Axxess Steering Wheel Control Interface, I know Axxess instructions on their website said to use the 1 wire on the oem harness however my question is how does the GMOS-01 3.5 connector is being used for the steering wheel, does the 3.5 connector integrates with the ASWC-1 harness or do I just ignore the 3.5 connector?

Buy what you want/need read all enclosed instructions, try everything out THEN ask questions. NOT before you even buy anything.

Hey guys I got all my parts this week and getting ready to wire everything. Just a quick question on the gmos harness there is a illumination orange wire on the 24 pin and on the 16 pin there is a dimmer wire that is orange white and finally on the radio harness there is the illumination orange wire. Would I connect the orange illumination wire on the radio harness to the 24 pin orange illumination wire? Or would I connect it to the 16pin orange white wire that says dimmer? I'm assuming the difference is between illumination and dimmer wire is dimmer I can control the brightness in the car dash lights and the radio will adjust and the illumination just send a 12v signal when the headlights come on and go off. Any suggestions of what should I connect to? Thanks

Really depends on the radio manufacturer. Does the manual say it wants a 12v+ source or a dimming source? Illuminiation is 12+, dimming is variable.
