• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

New Mufflers?

Everything's raspy after headers. I liked my magnaflows until I got headers.

Both vids are before headers. Both don't sound like a v8, both fail :(

are they loud? and they are not raspy at all during WOT? what magnaflows do you have?
I got these modded 02' Grand Prix GT with Magnaflow mufflers - YouTube, #11225 THeyre not loud what so ever and dont r=drone at all, i mean you can hear it but its not loud. If anything, i wish they were louder hah. But after my headers with 3 in dp are in ill see what i can do to make thjem louder if necessary. And not they're not raspy at all. My gf thinks they sound good and so does her dad who has zzp turbo mufflers cam and stuff. Now his car is loud lol, but i like his more.

yep thats the video i posted before^ can you make a video of yours? id like to hear it with just a different camera.

Brandon, you dummy.

Anything 3800 without a resonator sounds like dog squirts unless it has a turblow.
Again, I liked the sound of the drag mufflers.
But yah, I'd probaby stick with stock mufflers just because it's never gonna sound the way we want it to. That's the consensus. lol.

thanks for the reply's guys! i just picked up a 3800 block im going to be rebuilding so i still have alot of time before i get into mufflers. i didn't plan on buying this block and going this far with my car but it happened. i really would like to make my car sound like this one but im not gonna have enough money for the supporting mods to run the intense stage 4 cam like i really want to.

I hope by rebuilding you dont mean rebuilding the bottom end, cuz das bad. replacing all the gaskets and stuff its good. While you have the heads off take them to an auto shop and see how much it would be to port them, or at least get a valve job and see if you can get them machined for clearance for a cam bigger than an XP.

when it comes time again that you are looking for mufflers, see if u can find a used borla catback for sale...you could probly negotiate a price that will be around the same that it will cost you for the new borla mufflers and tips, and the work of getting them on if you are not doing it yourself. i recently bought a used corsa catback for $425 which definitely aint bad when it costs $1200 brand new haha.

i am rebuilding the bottom end i work in an auto shop a Mustang shop and we have rebuilt many engines before, and i have a friend that has already completely rebuild 3 other 3800's and never had a problem. i also know someone who works in a local machine shop so im running the block over to him and he's gonna check the block for cracks. my friend also has a valve lathe at his shop so we are going to do the valves there and hone out the cylinders. im gonna get the heads ported im gonna find some info on that and maybe do it myself, it not im gonna take it to the machine shop. i dont know why all these other peoples engines blew up from rebuilds, it just doesn't make sense to me they had to skip out on something. if an engine is built correctly its not gonna just "blow up"

Go to YouTube and search Greenbutt123. I have them
on that channel. I'd highly recommend listening to them with headphones that have decent bass for best sound, cause it was only recorded on my iPhone 4s lol

Stock guides are clearanced for .550. The XP isn't that big, it's around .520 lift.

Also, why not build a 3800? Reptile's and my last motors were all assembled from scratch. They ran like champs. And not for 500 miles like most of them are...he had over 20k on his when we went to a low compression E85 setup and I demodded at nearly 19k. They only fail if the builder fails at not paying attention.

i have a 98 black gtp with the 3800 i have flomaster with ubend delets over sized corvette tips and it sounds great to that only thing is it cuts out when the supercharger kicks in

So how does the max clearance between the valve seal and the spring retainer change with a different cam?

It doesn't?

I'm just saying I wouldn't run stock springs that are probably a solid 60lb's after 100k miles...yay; valve float.
