new motor

Can anybody tell me a good place to get a new or good rebuilt 3.8. I think mine has a blown head gasket plus it has 173000 miles on it.

Like I Said in chat. NO WHERE! Rebuilds NEVER hold up. Get a junkyard motor. The 3800 doesnt like to be rebuilt. Im not just making this stuff up mang

Yours lasted 171K miles. find a lower mileage one and be happy. There was a GTP on the forum with over 250K miles running high 11's on the stock engine FWIW for along time

Great Idea. Morad Parts company specializes in 3800's there a tad more expensive on somethings but his engines might be worth looking at.

Or just replace your intake gaskets, since your head gaskets probably are not leaking unless you are turbo, or got the engine stupid hot.

^^This^^.

I'd be willing to bet that you have the infamous failed LIM gaskets. For around $250 you can fix the issues and keep the motor.

What makes you think you blew a HG? Have you had a compression test done? I'd find it hard to believe with these motors, but I guess anything is possible. Heck, I'd be more worried about the trans going with that mileage before I'd even think about the motor.

Oh, and btw, I had 232K on my 00 GT and it was still running fine until it ingested a misplaced bolt :th_shakinghead1:

Head gaskets are the least likely gasket to leak on these motors. Almost 100% bullet proof.

If you tell us what's going on...we can probably save you a pile of dough.

As far as a rebuild. If the shop is competent, they can rebuild a 3800 w/o a problem. However align boring etc is needed. And the overall cost to rebuild is typically more than a different motor.

My ol lady got this motor stupid hot. The car idles rough as hell and uses a little coolant. No I have'nt had a compression test done yet but was considering it.

You want a good remanufactured motor, one word...JASPER. believe me you CAN'T go wrong with a Jasper replacement. If anyone tells you otherwise, believe me they DON'T know what they're talking about.

Are you kidding?

Junkyard motors are FTW.
