New LED Lightbulb Lasts 60 Years, Costs $2.85



That is great at least some peeps out there still car about saving money instead of taking all of mine.
 
They already makle LED light bulbs. I bought one holly crap can we say it will take 3-4 of those to mach the light output as a CFL ratted at 18w
 


I bought one of the cheaper ones too, and while it's good enough for accent lighting it's nowhere near as bright as a regular bulb. They do make LED light bulbs that are supposed to be as bright as a 60W incandescent, but they cost over $100.

These new LED's are a huge step forward. The only problem I can see is that, since it's a LED, it's still directional. This wouldn't be a liability in lights designed for it (it's small size is a huge benefit in designing new fixtures), but it might limit it's effectiveness in direct replacement bulbs for existing fixtures.

Another interesting concept is LVD electromagnetic induction bulbs. These avoid many of the complaints about CFL's, but given the complicated construction I'm not sure if they're viable as replacement bulbs.

I like all the new advancements in energy-saving bulbs.

Nevertheless, I will stick with incandescent until either:
a) One of the emerging technologies "wins" the cost/benefit race
b) The gov't forces me to switch

I'm guessing "b" will happen before "a" :(
 
It would be better if they were more affordable i mean yeah the new one is 2.85 but like the 60w replacement 120 screw that. I use the energy saver florecent replacement bulbs now. They seem to work fine.
