• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

New installation idea...

Tell me what you think everybody...here's the link to the other thread...

a/d/s/ 4" mids -- 334is.2 locations - DIYMA.com - Scientific Car Audio - Truth in Sound Quality

So I've always used a/d/s/ for my low budget speakers. The only things I've really invested in is my Leviathan amplifier. The rest is just stuff I've acquired.

Anyways, I really don't like using 5-1/4's or 6-1/2's in my doors. I just can't make it sound as well as I'd like. Especially since my sub is in the trunk. So here's my new idea....

334is on passive up high
6.5" sub in doors played in stereo
Sub in trunk taking over at about 50hz or so on the last two channels from my leviathan...

What do you think? Terrible idea? Here's the locations I'm thinking about...

The only idea I didn't picture was possibly mounting the tweeter on the same horizontal plane as the mid and aim it across the cabin dash.

So....constructive criticism?! :D

How is the on axis response/sound of that driver? Do a temporary dash mount with some foam and listen. I personally would not do the doors, steering wheel seem to be in the way. Do you have the ability to do time alignment?

I do have time alignment but that mainly helps with phase only. I'm kind of lazy right now but once I get some free time I think I'll go ahead and mount them temporarily. I'm tired of trying to measure this/that etc etc. Now days I usually just throw it up and listen for a bit. But I do like to get opinions :)

Really not sure where else I could put the 6.5" subs. I could try 8" subs too I suppose

Not really sure about the on-axis response...never seen a graph on these

Yeah, I would definitely wire them up with enough speaker wire so you can move them around and find the perfect location. But, as you know, they'll sound different once they're in a pod.

What if you just cut into the dash pad and mounted them in there? Maybe not perfect SQ, but definitely out of the way and better than the doors.

Aim them up towards the windshield? I had thought about it before but I'd want to get the mid real close to the apex of the dash and windshield. However, the actual dash is in two pieces in that area :/ Did I read that right?

Ahhh okay. You put it in a housing and build a mount so it fits in that spot, and then the housing for sealing purposes or so.

This is an 04+? I'm not quite as familiar with the dashpad.

yup yup!! I have a PVC 3" cap now and I need something to attach that to my A pillar. If I like this experiment then I can wrap the setup in fleece and add the resin mix for fiberglass. :D

Too much advertisement of "hey, look what I got inside the car" to any thief by mounting them near the windshield IMO.

Luckily nobody knows a/d/s/ :)

But you're right. In an attempt to thwart this install I got rid of the crossovers to see how an active crossover network would do. WOW!!! These speakers are phenomenal using an active crossover!!!
