New headunit sounds like ****?

So i went out to bestbuy today and got the gmos-04 wiring harness to hook up a new hu. Then i went and got a brand new kenwood kdc-152 from my work for cheap, only 62 bucks. Well its all hooked up and for one the volume only goes to 35, hardly pushing over my 12" aq in the trunk and is distorted as **** on radio and cd. I didnt solder but i never have befor. So is it the deck, my lack of soldering, or is there a way i can turn up the monsoon amp. With my 6 disc in there it easily could be heard crisp and clear over my sub.

Typical I had that same issue when I upgraded from the Monsoon keeping the stock speakers and up gutting everything out and going aftermarket. I would still check your soldering making sure everything is soldered tight and did you happen to try the HU out prior to buying it ?

the hu i got brand new in the box so no i didnt
also what i meant was i did not solder it cus i never have had to solder a hu befor and ive never had problems

thinking maby i should return the kenwood and grab a pioneer. Ive always have has good luck with pioneer

I have a pioneer in my 07 with the monsoon system and it sounds just fine. I would try soldering the connections and see if that helps.

As long as you crimped it good I wouldn't worry about it.

Pioneer > kenwood had nothing but positive things with my pioneer headunits also I'm a fan of alpine.

When Cole ole buddy... What is the output of the stock HU in ohms? IIRC aren't monsoon speakers 1 ohm and you are correct, I don't know as much about car stereo as I do mechanical ...therefore I may be totally off base here. Maybe... it's unhappy with either the level outputs or the ohms.

1ohm sounds low, if i remeber when i put my crossover on the stocks speaker i got a reading of 2ohm, so most like 4 ohm speakers, this was front, didtn check the rears they where just replaced. But i still dont think it would matter because of amp after the deck. The deck doest really push anything but a signal. i would say your clipping your stockers to death. check HU setting

there is a gain adjustment on the GMOS-04, trying adjusting it till it sounds better. 2 adjustment pots on the black box, one is for the volume of the chimes and the other to adjust the gain for the system. But you will prolly eventually just want to trash the monsoon amp in favor of an aftermarket amp for better quality sound.

Thankyou this is what i was looking for, i thought it was only for chimes.

You are trying to push a sub with just a headunit and no amp (other than the monsoon)? Thats part of your problem.

Also remember you get what you pay for. Buy another junk $70 Hu its not going to sound or last like a $200 one. Personally I paid 270 for my HU..... Try to get at less 4V pre outputs

This times a million. You definitely get what you pay for in headunits. A good unit will run you $200 minimum. If you want a touchscreen with DVD and or nav expect to pay $500 minimum.

$500 minimum on a good flipout is a tad off. $350-$400 minimum for a good one new is more along the right track. I picked up my clarion VZ401 2 ish years ago new and love it.

Doesn't skip at high volumes with my system and I can watch movies when we are on road trips.
