Hi to everyone
I m searching this forum a while ago and i never post
I bought a 2000 Grand prix GT 3.8L n/a for a very low price in good general condition.
Of course for the price i didn't except to be trouble free and i had to replace driver side front hub (still need axle) and the bigger problem is that i don't have 4th gear but it shift good (sometimes is jerking but it comes and go).
I 'm looking for a used transmission and i like to ask about compatibility problems with same or other years models.
Also in used parts search engines they ask for trans ID which i don't know.
There are two types 0BRB and ID BCB. Which one is the right one? Are both compatible / swappable? Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Thanos:)

You can use any trans from 98-02 GT Grand Prixs ONLY. Reason for this is they have a higher gearing than any other w-body (3.29's) Also, you can't use 97s due to being a 4t60 and vacuum controlled. 2003 uses an updated valvebody that isn't compatible with older models. I think there might be some other updates in the 03 unit, but not 100%

GT's have an xBCB id tag. The "x" is a number for the production year. For instance 1BCB would be out of an 2001 GT

0BRB was a one year only ID tag, but it is interchangeable as it was used in a 2000 GT/SE

Thank you for your replies
So any 98-02 transmission xBCB will be fine

I found some here on local private & junkyards that i m considering purchase.
What problems, if any, a trans will have if it remains in a wrecked car unused for a period of 1-3 years or more?
You just need to drain the old trans liquid and put a new one? Or is there any specific procedure like any kind of "cleaning" etc.
I heard that few, if any, put some kind of preservative in there to avoid rust but i think that's rare to find.

Thanks again
