New GTP owner and have HVAC issues

Hi all I'm a new and proud owner of a 2dr 99 GTP. I am loving the power and comfort of my car especially after coming from a 94 z28. Anyways my car has the dual zone digital climate control and the AC works intermittently. When it does work it's great then as I'm driving the AC light on he button just shuts off and I get hot air! This happens on the auto setting so I turn the auto setting off and put it on a normal setting I hit the button and turn the fans up but it still doesn't come out cool. So when it does work it's only on auto setting and when it's set all the way down. My other problem which I don't know it if it effects the AC is that the ext temp is never correct like today it said 34 degrees and it was 90+. I'm going to swap out the controls tomorrow and see how if that changes anything? Any help would be great as I am new to these cars and the whole digital climate controls.

You need to chance out the ambient air temp sensor. The ac won't run if the car thinks it's to cold outside.

Where is the ambient air temp sensor? I think I remember reading somewhere that it's on the dash? Is it the little black bulb near the security light?

Yeah you can probably see it if you don't have the plastic stuff in front of the rad. It's just a little black sensor and wire.

Ok thanks a lot. It's a cheap part so I replace it tomorrow. If this doesn't solve it could there be anything else that would cause my AC to just turn off then sometimes come back on?

That'll probably take care of it but if it just randomly turns off then it could be a few other things like low r134a or a bad compressor
