new fluid and filters

so i want to change my tranny fluid and filters just because my fluid is not the new red purdy color it should be..
but i have 176k miles and im scared to put new fluid ive been told that new fluid can harm a tranny with that many miles... is this true

Just drop the pan. Change filter and fill with 2 gallons of dexcon. Doing a full tranny flush could cause issues to occur. Doing jus a pan drop is very unlikely an issue will occur.

if the trans feels ok at this point, drop the pan, change the filter and add 8 quarts of new fluid. you should be ok.

a full flush would be the thing to stay away from, changing all of the fluid is what kills a high miles un service trans.

well see all i want to do is drop pan and clean it.. new filters and gasket. and only replace what comes out.. good or bad.. i dont want to do a flush..
is this considered a flush?

your on the right track, just drop the pan and clean it up, swap the filter, refill it.

re use the factory gasket, clean it up with some brake cleaner and its good to go again.
