New condenser, then what ?

05 GP base, warm weather arrived and cue the failure. Saw a small puddle, turns out it was refrigerant oil. Ordering new condenser, but I'm a noob to A/C work. Now that the system is "open" , I can't just recharge it ? I need to pull vacuum ? If so, from where, and how ? Thanks in advance.....E.
 


Anytime I've had a system open I always replace the accumulator and orifice tube as well, along with the O-rings. Make sure you replace the amount of PAG that came out of the old accumulator by pouring the same amount into the new one. Same for the condenser (or look up the specs if it is empty). Connect your gauges and then draw a vacuum on it on the low side until it reaches 30hg and then holds that for at least 30 min. If it holds then I fill er up with the correct lbs. of R-134. Then I just watch the low and high side gauges once the compressor kicks in. Should be a chart somewhere on the interwebs that shows what the vent temp. should be based on the outside ambient temp and humidity to make sure it's working right.

Honestly if you don't have a good gauge set and vacuum pump then I would just replace the components (along with the correct amount and type of PAG oil) and then take it to a shop to have it drawn down and filled. A/C can be such a PITA to work on sometimes.
 
So stupid question, but are you certain that the leak was from the compressor or whether a leak from somewhere else caused the compressor failure? Also, I always have uv dye oil on hand and use it whenever recharging or replacing pag oil since why not? That why I can see future leaks!
 
Thanks for the replies, Guys. Again bear w/me, total noob to A/C, but well versed in wrenching...... @ Fordman, good to know about those additional parts. Accumulator I see is right near condenser, Orifice tube (from pix on RA) looks like a little plastic filter thing, where does that live ? @ wstefan, puddle of oil came from rad mount grommet, so it can only be a leaking condenser, ya ?
 
Condenser & Accumulator from RA, Vacuum pump & manifold set from HF, 3 cans r134a, pag oil, & can tap from AZ = $266.60 .... Not bad.
