So my grand prix was straight piped for quiet sometime and my check engine light was always on for the o2 sensor, i just had the cat installed and the o2 sensor and my check engine light went off then came back on and continues to do so, i went and got it scanned and it said it was an o2 sensor. my friend said this happened to him already and is normal.. is this normal or is something wrong
 


I know of a few people that have installed "aftermarket" cats. Apparently, they don't quite do a good enough job and the computer throws the code. They just put black tape over the light. :th_thumbsup-wink:
 
If it is a universal or high flow, they will still trip the code...IMO, I woulda just left it out so you could always rule out a converter as an issue.
 
Yeah some universal or high flow cats will set the code. Put a spark plug non fouler around the 02 and it should fix your problem.
 
That's a big thing in the foreign car world, especially BMW and Audi from what I've read...it works and its cheap.
 


yeah, i had to put a cat on because the first owner didnt have one and noone would pass my inspection and it is an aftermarket cat and the code is now gone, does the computer just self adjust to the cat or am i an idiot?
 
When it adjusts you know...because the code will either be on or go off.

Like stated...high flows sometimes flow too good for the rear o2 to believe there is a converter there so it does throw a code. But who needs a rear o2 anywayz
 
Had this on my GT after I Installed a ZZP Catted Downpipe ... just had the code set to no report ... problem solved :)
 
well in my state to pass inspection you must have a rear o2 sensor to pass so, thats why i have one, i was straight piped for the longest time and i may go back that way very soon.

Nope, don't know the guy...does he have a certain car or something that I should keep an eye out for?
 
A certain car... Well has certain carsss... Hes dad collects late model mustangs and vettes and he himself I believe drives a porsche carrara (sp)
