i am looking to get a car for my sister. she is almost 16 and needs a car. i found a 2005 Acura TL. it is real nice looks new and drives like new. they car lot is asking $5000 for it OTD. no error codes or any thing. it is as far as i can tell perfect. i even took a mechanic friend of mine and he said it was almost perfect. it does need a C/V joint but other than that is is great.

fully loaded with nav, and every option.

but the catch is.......301,537 miles. is this car a no no? it was a travailing sales man.

thanks for input.

I personally would do it. Cause i would swap the engine and trans out, but for your sister. No
agreed on just buying a beater for 16 yr old

Well knowing the miles was put on due to working...chances are the car was kept up good. It was the mans "job" to have a car that would run. So the miles is crazy high but im sure the car was taken care of as in oil changes and just basic up keep on a car. I would say go for it if you have already looked around and found that would be your best option.

Not totally true ^^ I had a school fund raiser guy who drove a TL come into the shop every 5 or so months. He bought his oil in bulk of the internet and it was Synthetic with no brand, literally felt like corn oil and said Hi Performance Synthetic on the bottle, and that was it! He changed his oil around every 15 to 18k with this crap and a CHEAPP filter. Whole front end was out, brakes were shot, all pulleys were loose, valves were tickin, and that was around 220k at that point. He thought it would make 350k!

most of these fools don't take care of there cars, some do, but most dont care that much as i've seen

hell u can find a lower mileage GTP for less than that.

But it would be a GTP.

Anyways, I wouldn't do it. Way too many miles and while $5k is not a pricey car, it will still be expensive to repair things that may go wrong on a 300,000 mile car.

If you want I can sell you a 2005 Acura TL Aspec with every option with 35,000 miles for $22k.

true... jus sayin.

Make her buy her own car imo..

Most people I know who had cars given to them they beat them and don't take care of them because they don't know what it is like to spend thousands of dollars on a car.

ok so its a no on the TL. i also found a 2000 olds alero for 4500 dollars. it is leather with 90000 miles on it. i drove it and i really liked that.

and the car my sister found was a 1999 mercury cougar. it has 94000 miles and is leather V6, and is real nice. its price is 3500 dollars. it has some brake sensor problem because every brake light is on in the dash. but drives well.

and as far as her buying it. my mom has made a deal that she will buy all the kids there first car. my oldest got a 91 escort. $600 still drives. my second sister got a 92 jeep. $5000. and blow up. me i got a 98 chevy blazer. the thing just died. $2675. all these were purchased and died except the escort in side of 2 years. so my mom siad that for this sister she will spend just a little bit more and get a good car.

so what is a car that has a good track record? i know honda, toyota, nissan. but what american car will last a long time with good maintenance?

thanks!

Get a non-supercharged Grand Prix...change the LIM gaskets and flush out the dexcool and be done. POOF! 200+K car.

I feel your pain with the blazer, but i spent 4500 on it to die. An alero would be a practical car.

How about a newer-ish cavy? there decent cars. but a decent $1000 beater would be best. i wish i would of got my wife a beater when she got her license at 20. She wouldnt have beat up my '06 HHR. Oh well. no biggie.

i wish my mommy was like that i had to buy my first car, a 96 beretta for 300 bucks with a blown motor. dropped a motor in it for another 300 and ran perfect. just wanted something different so i got the love of my life i have now :)
