New Car Owner Help

I recently purchased my first vehicle last month, being a 2000 grand Prix gt with 200.2 on the odometer and I'm having mechanical issues with it that we cannot solve. Again this is my first car ever, and I know nothing about working on vehicles.

The issue with the car was while I was driving down the highway on cruise control, the battery light would come on and the engine would stop pumping gas. Even with cruise off, the gas pedal wouldn't work, the car can only slow to a stop and when I would try to start it back up, I can hear the engine seemingly fire up again while starting it, but when I let the key back the car is dead and won't run. With the key in the on position the battery, oil, and check engine light are on. The first time this happened, I was told it was fuel pump and bought a new one and had it replaced. Doing this made the car start up and run, but once again driving on the highway the car dies and produces the same problem.

I've read around forums and question boards, but haven't found anything like the problems I'm having. Could someone help a new car owner figure this out so I can get myself to work finally, please?

You said your battery light would come on while you were driving? Have you had your battery checked or maybe even your alternator?

Mmmm...dying crankshaft position sensor...noms...

Unless the ignition switch is indeed bad...but typically you lose dash lights when that occurs.

Maybe you just ran out of gas? It's possible to have your fuel level sensor die and the gas gauge reading to be off.
