just got a 1998 GT with the 3800 for $200.00 ! only thing is , it will not start. have done nothing to it but put in a fresh battery, will spin over fine, but no start. has 217,000 miles on it, put starting fluid in it and it back fired out the intake, i can here the fuel pump run...:th_lipssealed1:

plugs and wires might be totally fouled out...might try that or even a fuel filter could be clogged if it has that many miles on it.

yes it acts like its hitting some, i took out number 1 plug, and it has gas and black stuff all over it ! going to get plugs and wires in the A.M.

pics of it...

Awesome LOL Might as well tear into it the rest of the way and do it right while it is all off...get the Lower Intake Manifold gasket done too...if the Upper was that bad the lower probably needs it...

where am i going to get all the stuff i need , and what all do i need ?

Get them from a GM Dealership...the Aluminum Lower Intake Manifold gaskets...also pick up some new Coolant Elbows for the LIM whileyour there, just a few bucks. Get some red RTV to seal it up too...Should run ya around $50 or so...

arent the plastic UIM's a common fail point?

They tend to warp or crack...mileage honestly doesn't make a difference IMO...My Mom had a '03 LeSabre and bought it with 11K on it in '04...she never drives it so when I bought the GTP in early '07, I worked on it first (kinda like the test mule lol) and notcied her UIM took a crap on her and it only had a little under 26K on it at the time. Leaked coolant all over the rear manny. Swapped new LIM gaskets and put a new UIM on it and VIOLA!! Done like dinner ;)

Send a PM to Brian (Reptile).

x2 on the lower and upper replacement - might as well do it now. Don't forget to change the oil after you change the gaskets - use some low-grade dino-stuff at first, just long enough to circulate and warm up - and then change it and the filter again to a more...sophisticated brand. ;).

I'd also run some Seafoam through that sucker when you get it all buttoned up...but that's just me.

Also - at the beginning of your video - it sounds like either the bendix didn't kick out all the way - or you (possibly) are missing a tooth (teeth) on the flywheel....but I'm old and my hearing isn't that great. ;)

Good luck, and nice find!!
