my .02, i think the double roller issue might be hit and miss, i know of one that has broken a rollmaster. I currently use a roll master, and have done so for about 15k miles, 10 of that was W/O double gaskets or machined pump cover. I did notice that the chain coming off my L67 had a slight slack to it, yet reinstalling it on the L26 block a year and a half back it was tighter. Used double paper gaskets, no issues. I also use MLS HG's, w/ ARP studs. .060 (slightly thinner than stock). Issues people are having are usually attributed to not using copper spray to help seal the gaskets. I've put 23-24 degrees of timing against these HG's while racing, and not a single problem.

Finally, if you want something more in your price range for a turbo, my buddy dave (mentioned earlier in the thread) is selling his 513 WHP dyno'd turbo kit, Stattama T67. Hit that number w/ e85, ST2 cam, stock heads w/ stock HG's and head bolts (130k stock l67) and he ran 11.50@129 mph. His 65 injectors were maxed on the dyno (21 psi i believe?) and this was with a racetronix pump and BAP and a rewire, stock FPR, L26 LIM/UIM, L26 fuel rail, so im pretty sure that on e85 you'd need larger injectors, or what he planned, 120# injectors and an injector driver box.

Small point being your spending money on things (in my opinion) you dont need to hit your goal of 500. Hope some of this helps

Changed my mind due to some circum stances and am back with the build.


Just waiting on taxes. Already have all of the used parts reserved for me. The heads are on there way. Will be here tomorrow.

dude, make up your mind. ha!

you should go turbo though. you already have the built tranny for it. it would be a fun car to drive every second of the day. however, i wouldnt want to DD one because at that power level street tires on the street are just stupid. youd need to run drag radials and those would not fly in the rain.

Sorry I havent posted with my $0.02 yet but some info that I think you should consider.

1) your double roller: You need to read these 2 threads for some info on it. There is a big problem with both the JP and rollmaster timing chains right now. Zooomer and the guys at ZZP are working on it as we type. Zooomer has even been asked to refrain from speaking in public forums about it for the moment but he is about due for an update to us. her is a link to the 2 threads.

2) Cam, thats a pretty agressive cam for 105lb springs since 1/2 of the powerband is in the upper RPM ranges. You will need to get 130lb springs for this. I have the ST2 cam and 105lb springs and so does a buddy of mine who has an XP cam with his turbo kit. We are both floating our valves in the upper RPM ranges going down the track. We will both be upgrading to the 130lb or comp 125lb springs this summer.

3) Oversized intercooler: Where are you getting this intercooler? I am sure your already aware of this but I have to say it every time because I beleive its the biggest money saver. Build your own IC. Thats what I did and so did Jason Austin. Sal from clubgp just built the same one we did once we told him how much we saved. This is the one Jason and I run, the TR10 Intercooler, 26" Long Core:

We then bought a standard piping kit off of e-bay for about $110 shipped that came with all the clamps and couplers.
Jason and I built our IC's for $500 or less. They perform just as good as ZZP's.

Just some food for thought.

As long as I can get a piping kit then I would much rather build my own intercooler. It's a shame there sooo over priced. Let me know what piping kit you bought that worked good for you. I was looking at the intercoolers from them just the other day!


I forgot to update the list with the 130lb valvesprings. I was planning on running them. Thanks for the links about the double roller. I will check those out.

What does everyone think about the st3 cam and 105's? I really don't want to mess around with any of these aftermarket chain delima's. I'm tired of hearing about them.


Tom, I know you said you have valve float with the st2 cam? I have the xp right now with 105's and am not having any issues,

Here is the specs on the st3


Duration @ .050" is 218/212.
Lift is .528/.520 with 1.6 rockers.
Lobe separation is 113 degrees.


Although the duration is a lot lower than the XP (XP is 116) the lift is also a lot lower.


You guys give me you're thoughts on this. I want to steer away from double rollers if possible. the guy that posted up here that made 540 somthin hp on a stock block and had an XP cam. If it comes down to that I think I would just use that.


Even when zoomer does come to his conclusion I'm not sure I will trust it. Or anyone's opinion for that matter. I mean look how long we have gone with people just thinking it was ok to machine the oil pump cover. Wrong again. The is another problem that we have seemed to over look. yet again.

As far as the XP floating valves. Jason Ausitn runs the Z-7 kit, double roller, 105lb springs, HV2, A2A IC, runs 18lbs of boost, 18* of timing and floats his valves.

I may just get the guy that does manderal bending at his little exhaust shop to bend me some pipe and weld it up. He does good work. Use him for all my exhaust needs.

for this build youre going to need a double roller. the tensioner will take a crazy beating and eventually take out the chain with it, which we both know will end up in at least a couple bent valves or pushrods.

my JP is still money after about 17k miles on it. i dont see why if you dont make sure everything is right when installing that it shouldn't run for a long time without problems. therefore, id stick with the 130# springs.

Maybe talk to Farnsworth about the double roller issues, he had his machinest match the new aussie double roller sprocket to the american stock sprocket's chamfer, since they were not the same. Might be able to just send it to him, not sure though.

A lot of people have been experiencing comp cams 105 spring failures too, enough to have a thread dedicated on clubgp to failures. #130 would be a good investment.

I have been looking at turbo setups for a long time now but am a poor college student, everytime I save enough to get started I have something come up. The stattama kits are great, but there are a lot of base kits hitting the same 1/4 mile times as these bigger builds... it makes you wonder if it is really worth the price and when does "too big" come into play on a fwd car. Personally, I'd wait for the Z9 kit to come out and see what the market does or look at everyones feedback on the kit. I'd be happy with just a base kit + 1.9rr on e85 hitting over 400hp on my daily driver.

Well that would be nice but it seems like they are trying to beat around the bush on Zooomer and like Zooomer said, evading responsibility in the issue.
