Need some opinions...

Im going to be buying a set of Sport Edition kv5's very soon, along with DNA springs, struts, motor mounts and mount spacers... probably soon as I get my tax money.

Here's the dilemma.... Tire Rack has 17's for $128/wheel. A set of 17's is $512
18's are 189 a wheel driving a set up to over $730

Offset on the 17's is 40
Offset on the 18's is 45

What Im wondering is.. is the extra inch worth another 300+ dollars, or do you think 17's and a drop would be good? I've heard going from 16 to 17 is a waste of time, I never bought wheels so Im not sure if the difference will even be noticable.

The offset on the 17's is lower so they might even look better being farther out

18's are available with chrome, not sure if I want chrome or not...

Also, bolt pattern on the 17's is 5x115 where the 18's are 5x114... I know I read that both will work on our vehicles, is that 100% true, nobody's had trouble running the 5x114?

Tell me what you guys think about it.

Id go bigger. 17's look small on 04+. If anything, try finding those kv5's used or something and save money.

Holy balls, I found a set on craigslist for 400... 18x8, chrome, 5x114

About 2 hours away! Gunna drive to pick em up tomorrow!

This is awesome lol

Oh I am so angry right now... he called me back to tell me he already sold them after we confirmed I'd pick them up tomorrow, wtf. I could kill someone right now, they were perfect.

So I continued looking and I found another set...

Set of 18" Mille Miglia Evo 5 rims. They all have curb rash, 2 out of the 4 are slightly bent. They all hold air and they all have tires on them. (YES..YES all 4 of the rims are repairable). All 4 of the tires are worn down and they will need to be replaced. I can have the tires taken off the rim at buyers request.

He wants $150 for all 4

Worth it? Can they be fixed? Will it be expensive to fix?

Soooo, I continued looking and found a set of evo-5's, the mille miglia ones, 18".. only a little bit of curb rash on one and looks like the rest have some really light oxidation, he only wanted 375 for them. He was like 2 and a half hours away so I went for a long trip today to pick em up. They're in pretty good condition as described in the ad, just need tires. They're a little dirty too, working on cleaning them up now, I'll have pics later after they're all cleaned up.

Alright, so my next step is to get tires for them, 245/45/18 is the size Im getting, sound good?

Will I need to run hubcentric rings for these wheels? Can anyone tell me what the offset on these is? They're 18x8, I asked the seller but he doesnt know. I dont see the info on the back of the wheel at all.

Also, I assume these are polished aluminum? They're not chrome for sure...

offset is mid +40s or so, maybe +42mm at the lowest.

245/45/18 is the perfect size, go with those.

no sand blast them down and powdercoat them a more fun color. you know, not silver or black.

Those don't look like KV-5's to me, they look like Evo-5's from Millie miglio............discontinued and very hard to come by. Seems like you scored big time!!!

Yeah I know, been looking for them for a long time, then settled on kv5's, but then I found these... for only 400, so yeah Im happy, lol. Just gotta get them cleaned up a little, wrap them up in some rubber and bolt em on, probably by the end of the week.

They have balancing weights on the inside of them, but also there are a lot of places where it looks like there used to be weights and they fell off, so Im probably gunna have to get em rebalanced, too.

What car did they come off of? That will help in finding out the offset. It's often listed on the back of the wheel by the size.

Are these wheels clear coated or just aluminum? Tryin to figure out what cleaner would be best... Meguiar's All Wheel for clearcoated wheels, or Meguiar's Aluminum Only which is gentler..

The one on the top left of the picture I posted, you can see how the inside and even parts of the face are darker than the other 3... There's a layer of what looks brownish like oxidation/rust, maybe about as thick as a thin sheet of paper all around.

Ive been putting meguiars all wheel on it, scrubbing with a soft bristle wheel brush and rinsing for awhile and it seems like it coming up slowly. Where there was only black/brown before, silver is showing through in spots.

One thing I'm not sure about though is it seems like in the inside of the wheel, it's totally coming up, revealing smooth silver, but the parts on the face of the wheel seem like the coloration is coming up but the bumpiness is staying in some spots.
