so i just replace my water pump and what have yous noticed that one of the idler pulleys spins way to easy (the very front one that the supercharger uses) i put the belts back on to run the car to make sure my water pump was working but the car kinda shifts funny now outta first revs higher then normal is this caused by the pulley being loose? or why would it do that? never had a issue before im going to replace the pulley just need to get to town today to buy it... and what is the normal engine temp you guys run at?

car is a 2002 pontiac grand prix gtp

it shouldnt affect your shift speed.

Was the battery disconnected?

That can cause a reset of any learned parameters, but still, the shift points shouldnt change.

If the pulley doesnt wobble side to side when you press on it with the belt off, its probably okay. Spin it and listen for bearing noise, if there is an excessive amount, it probably needs replacing.

Otherwise thats $20-40 you can keep in your pocket for a while.

yes the battery was disconnected, the pulley when i spin it sounds like a roller skate wheel if that helps any if i spin it with my finger itll keep spinning for awhile i didnt think it should have that much play also both belts are cracked and are in rough shape so those are going as well just not sure why it shifts funny outta first
