New member
alrighty im new to the forum as well as a new buyer of a 97 GTP. i was just wondering what you guys would estimate hp wise for my car. its a very quick car, even on 22's. so if you all could help me out and let me know what else you think i should add to make this car better. thanks everyone.

2004 monte carlo SS motor
ported and polished heads
ported intake
ported front exhaust manifold
ported m90 supercharger
3.25 supercharger pully
K&N air box cold air kit
MSD wires
2-3/4 exhaust no resonator
high flow cat
o2 simulator
de-screen TB
dual flowmasters out back

wow, you already have all that on your car? the only things left are a cam or rockers and some headers. the next thing would then be an intercooler.

all of these will make your car MUCH faster than it is, but as always everything is in the tune.

ya, i bought the car last week. theres 137k on the body and 40k on the motor which was put in about a week before i bought it. its got the F-Body Brake conversion, new transmission oil cooler, and a race programmed ecu. so it aint that bad i dont think. im looking into an intercooler and some cams but for now this will due.

So you did all these mods yourself or bought the car already modded? Either way, great find!! Take those heavy chrome 22s off there and youll lose a lotta weight too, im sure. Not being a HATER, I like rims as much as the next guy. But are you going for "show" or "go"? As Im sure you know, shave off weight and you shave off 1/4 mile time.....

i bought it already modded with 22's on it. i mean it spins these 22's with ease right now, but i aint gunna keep doing that because im not in the position to replace a tranny. idk i like the rims on there just to cruise around but you get that little urge, well for me a big urge to get on it alot and i think the stock rims would be a total 180. i got the stock rims with the buy so ill probably throw them on instead.

I would mod in this order....

1.) Scanner/Tuner... I'm willing to bet you have KR, even with the port work. That 3.25" could be hurting you more than helping. I'd go easy on it until you know for sure.

2.) Full Sized Intercooler... Don't waste your money on an SSIC, go big or go home. Otherwise you'll regret it, trust me here

3.) Headers... Even ported manifolds will hold you back, for way better flow, invest in some Headers. S&S and TOGs are good, Pacesetters can be good with several modifications.

4.) Remove the Cat... Even a highflow will be a restriction, again trust me I know. Remove it if you can in your area. If they do a visual, gut it, shove a pipe through it and weld it up. Otherwise if there is no inspection, put a stright pipe in its place. I would do this mod when you do the headers since you'll need a new downpipe anyway, kill 2 birds with one stone.

5.) 1.9 Rockers or a CAM... This one is up to you. Both will compliment the mods you have nicely. If it were me, i'd do the rockers w/ heavier springs. If you want a Cam, i'd do this at the same time you do the IC so you only have to tear down the motor once.

After all the above is done you maybe able to drop pulley sizes, again, scan to find out whats suitable.

6.) If you don't go with a tuner in option 1, get a tuned PCM from Overkill (:: Overkill Motorsports ::). He has the BEST pcms hands down! He can tune your car right.

Of course, keep a tranny in the back of your mind. You'll need it eventully. Talk to trannyman about that one, there are several options in that aspect.

i appreciate the help, some of the things you listed ive been looking into. i figure the mods i have are good now but theres always room for improvement so a little bit at a time i should be adding more things. thanks again.

This was my first thought. I have the mods in my sig on my car, and I still get knock. So I am sure that you are getting way more knock. And KR is not good.

So get something, or someone to scan for knock. A tuning package is good. But just an aeroforce gauge would work fine.

But once you see how much knock you are getting, then start looking into intercooler, cam, or rockers to get rid of it. Or, go back to a stock pulley.
