Need some help/information on seats.

Alright, so unfortunately both the driver and passenger seats in my 99' GT Coupe broke down around the second week after I had purchased the car. I've taken it to quite a few automotive shops around town, and they've tried fixing the seats to no avail. Apparently the part isn't possible to locate.

I'm not sure why it wasn't possible to fix, but right now my seats are huge safety hazards for anyone riding in my car. Basically the mecahnism that locks them in place is broken, so the backs move forward/backward freely. If I was to ever get into a collision, the seat would have enough force to seriously injure/kill the passenger.

Finally, I decided that it was time to fix this problem. I currently have a pair of these seats:

RS-SII-FB-BKBK Spyder SII Racing Seat Fabric - Black/Grey (Double Adjust/Slider) for 97-03 Pontiac Grand_Prix at Andy's Auto Sport

You probably already know my problem, but I'm trying to find a way to switch out my current seats with those. I didn't realize how hard of a task this was going to be.
from what I understand, GP's stock brackets are not compatible with these, or any racing seats. They also don't make custom seat brackets that would work in my GP.
If I'm wrong about any of that, please let me know! Because I'm very new to the whole "car scene" and am doing my best to figure it all out.

Anyway, I'm just looking for some insight as to if there is ANY way possible to get these seats in my car. I'm more than willing to purchase whatever parts/services may be needed to accomplish this/do whatever instructions you may have. I don't mind not having any of the electric functionality that my current seats have, or whatever else I might need to sacrifice..

Thank you guys so much, and I'm really hoping someone might have a solution. (also please note: I know that it's very easy/popular to install 04+ seats into my GP, but I paid $600+ for these racing seats.. and I have to put them to use!)

I helped a friend put teaching seats into his 97 gtp and a took some bar stock and made a frame for the seat and then tack welded it all down. Seat still in and works great

By any chance would you be willing to, or have already written a write-up on the process you and your friend took? I have access to a welding shop at my school, so I can probably fabricate something similar with the steps you took.

Its pretty simple. I just used a measuring tape and made a frame that would fit the tracks inside the car. Then also made a frame that would fit the seat. Then just welded the two frames together. Dee holes for seat to go onto seat frame. Then welded it inside the car. That's pretty much how. I sadly don't have any pictures

Thanks a bunch! I'm already feeling more confident that I might be able to get these seats working after all. I'll go measure the length/width of the current tracks in my car, and the seats.

Overtime I've learned that when a company's product claims it's "Universal", it rarely works for EVERY vehicle. Though being a bit optimistic, I was wondering. Do any of the Universal seat brackets work for mounting the above seats in my GP? I don't mind paying whatever the cost may be, if someone knew the answer. I'd just like to eliminate all other options, before doing what DirtDog has suggested.

Thanks again,

Uh.. I believe that any coupe seat automatically moves forward when you use your hand to push the back of it forward. Which always made me wonder.. what good is that dumb little lever?

If you want to save some, maybe sell the racing seats and hit a junkyard, most gp seats in that era only cost $20-40 each at most yards. Takes a minutes to install.

Haha, I think you might have misunderstood the problem. It's not that it only goes forward, but the backs of the seats are not held upright at all anymore. They just lay back, and the driver/passengers have to deal with sitting upright without any support. Then if we come to a fast stop, they fly forward and hit the riders! lol..

And, I mean money isn't a huge problem. It's just that I would really love to see these seats in my car! :D
