Need some expert advice from you guys. I have 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L supercharged with 170,000miles this car has become a worse nightmare for me for last 2 weeks. Giving me some electrical trouble which no body is able to understand. Error code P0560 (System voltage malfunction). P01671 this is an intermittent problem and my car just stalls and transmission doesn't want to shift the gears. I have to drive in 1 gear only. I changed 3 alternators in 4days. Turned out faulty by overcharging. I have checked grounds alt plug wire wiring seems to be good I changed pcm still same problem I am reading from 15 17.4 volt. My abs tcs light flash on off HUD also flashes on off.
Anyone have idea what could be wrong. I am guessing I have a short in a wire I can’t seem to find it. Do I need to put a different engine wire harness in fix this problem.

from my own experiences, cars don't like to have a charge over 14, a high 13 is even better, its like the computers cant function with that much power.

my last truck i went through 3 alts in 3 days, all over charging, truck didn't run right at all, and had the low volt light on the whole time, all tested good at the store, this was autozone to, so if that's where you got yours i feel your pain.

I'd need an fsm in front of me. But the system voltage can be raised by inserting a diode etc into the S or sense wire on teh altenrnator. Typically this wire is fed igntion voltage and that's how the regulator in the alt knows what it's putting out to the system. It's possible that the wire is seeing some resistance the the regulator believes it needs to ramp up the voltage.
