Need new seat - 98 GTP

I have a 98 GTP with a driver seat that is worn out. Specifically - the foam padding is trashed and it's no longer supportive or comfortable. Also, the heated portion burns my ass.

So - I have a couple of choices:

1) New replacement
2) Junkyard replacement
3) Cover
4) Reupholster

Mechanically, the seat is fine. And, the leather is in decent shape (one small tear). If I could get new foam for it, it would probably be fine. But, I don't know if it makes sense financially.

Suggestions?

Junkyard....Find one without busted out windows, and a decent seat. I've pulled a couple for different cars, and the most I've payed it $30 for a seat.

if you have leather a junkyard seat will be pointless....u gotta figure that the drivers seat is the most used seat in the car and takes the most abuse. gm also uses thin leather that although durable is still thin. if you have a tear already its only gonna get far worse. having the bottom of the seat redone was only 400 for my pacecar but that was only the bottom. this guarantees no rips for years as opposed to a gamble of weak weather rotted leather in the junkyard one thatll tear worse than the one you have now within a year

Both my front seats came out of a Florida junk yard, and the car had been there for over a year. Not a single tear or crack on them, except for 1 little tear where my pocket knife was resting open on the seat, and I accidently pressed down on it.

It just depends on the condition of the seat really.
There's always gold to be had in a junkyard.

What I'm worried about is that my car has a rare interior color - I fear it will be very hard to find in a junkyard. It's camel something-or-rather iirc.

I'm not interested in spending >$100 on this so junkyard might be my only option.

What I condsidered doing is buying a junkyard seat and putting my upholstry over it. I assume it's held in place by hog rings or someting like that (something that can be removed and replaced). I'm far more interested in replacing the padding - not the leather. I can always get a seat cover if need be. What I want is something that fixes my burned ass and complete lack of lateral support. New(er) leather would be nice - but it's not that important to me.

i've got a regal and i cant imagine that the seats are that much different, my car got flooded out, and i had to take the whole seat apart to dry it out, no hog rings just plastic rails along the sides and front and back, for the bottom, and to remove the bottom the backrest needs to be removed, just watch out for the heated seat wires, it can be done, will just take some time. mine was a bit of pain in the ass. oh and theres 2 bolts at the hinge point in the rear, and dont freak out when you pull the bolts, the adjuster is going to snap, theres another cable lol.

maybe take the junk yard one apart first as you wont need the covers if you rip one up.
