Need Help

take the heater core hoses off the engine, then put a garden hose to one hose, and flush the core. its got air in the core. you need to fill the core back up.

your water pump could be shot if you dont feel coolant flowing through the upper hose. pinch it to feel if coolant is flowing through it.

also make sure the fans come on.

When i pull the throttle i can see the hose almost suck in, so i assumed the pump was moving at least some coolant. I had to hard wire the fans, only one came one otherwise no matter the temp, but never thought of filling the core up. would that contribute to the overheating in any way?

un hard wire the fans. then unplug the temp sensor. its under the t stat in the lim. if both fans turn on the temp sensor is bad.

air in the core wont make it over heat. but the fans not working can. also no t stat is not as good as you think, it regulates the engine temp.

It was out when i bought it, when i put one in it almost instantly overheats. Holds pressure good, and no coolant in the oil so i figured gaskets are good. Got both fans wired into fuse panel under glove box that is only hot when ing. is on. When i got it, he had them wired to a toggle switch ran into driver door.

Not losing any fluids at all. When i first bought it, it had a misfire and after driving myself batty found an injector was unplugged plugged it in and it ran smooth. Had to put new ac blower motor in ,the other was full of water from a seal under the plastic piece on the windshield. And then the fan issue.
Now its the overheating and no start i have to fix.

I thought the fans would always come on when the temp sensor was unplugged?

un plug the last guys mess at the fans, plug it back in to the harness and then unplug the temp sensor. if the fans turn on its a 20 dollar fix for a temp sensor.

if theres no relay on this guys fan switch, theres your dead battery. you need a relay if you power the fans on a switch.

He completely cut the harness for the fans off, so no chance at plugging back in. I vacated his switch and wired them straight into the fuse box mentioned earlier with a fuseable link so both fans come on with the ignition.

i hear ya, but your only get one speed that way. you can get a new plug end a junk yard or cut the other plug off and hard line it back.

the fans have 2 speeds, hi and low speed. your not getting both speeds, not sure what one you would get hard wired.

True, they both seem to blow good, but I'll look at parts yard for the plugs also. Also if i press the check valve on the fuel line and fuel squirts out is that a indication the pump is ok? Or is it possible that i have a lack of air problem causing my no start?. BTW, thanks for your help, i am lost with this car but really like it and want it running better.

if gas spits out with pressure you got ok pressure.

the maf is your issue. check that fuse, and the wires to the mafs plug for damage. if those are both good get another maf. clear the code, (unhook the battery for 30 minutes) new maf in and i bet it runs much better.

Fuse was good..As long as it starts and stays running when i take my foot off the gas i will be happy, then i can work on other problems.

maf should clear it up, you need to clear that code tho, or it can still run poorly for a while. you can buy a cheap code scanner for 15 bucks shipped. what i did when i got sick of going to the parts store for the free scan there.

I have an innova obd scanner, had to have one of those. I try to do most my own car work, if i feel i can handle the task. I hate being gouged at repair shops here in florida. I'm going to get a used maf tomorrow and i will report back the results. No way i can afford the $120- $150 they are asking for new ones.

those mafs suck any ways. these engines dont like aftermarket mafs. why a used one from a yard is the way to go. oem as much as possible when it come to sensors.

i got a used one out of a park av that was n/a its 5 years old or more now. best 40 bucks spent.

if you clear the code will it idle ok for a while then crap out?

No, it still will only run with the gas pedal pressed in. No matter what i can't get it to run 1 second after i let off the gas pedal.
