Need help w O2 sensor fail

Ok I just installed a new O2 sensor only a few days ago. Now I'm running rich bank 1 O2 sensor, my car is running hotter than normal, and it feels like it hasn't got any power and the low oil light keeps comming on. Im not low on oil. This is the 3rd sensor i've installed in the last several months, and this ones a denso. What the crap is causing all these O2 sensors to fail?! I've replaced my pcv, checked all vacuum lines, Injector orings, both O2 sensors, fuel filter. And more. Only problem I can possibly.think of is a small exhaust leak at the Y-collector pipe. Need me some serious help...
 


well, i'm not sure that this is the cause of your issue, but i do know that for these cars, delco o2 sensors are the ones to replace with as the others throw off the numbers and don't work as well.

as for not having power, it sounds like a clogged cat, but that wouldn't explain the low oil lights. then again it could just be a retarded dummy sensor for that.
 
Could be a bad sending unit in the oil pan...it happens.

As for the sluggish feeling...do you have headers?

Check the wiring for the o2...sure it isn't burned?
 
Somehow I am low on oil. . . And I only did an oil change in march. No oil on the ground that I can see. As for the O2 sensor I may go ahead and replace the extention wire.
 
The sensor that reads pressure is screwed into the oil filter elbow off the front cover. Might make sure the sensor is plugged in, and/or the wires are not cut or damaged. If your oil light is on, then the sensor is reading 5psi or something like that, and by then, its usually too late to save the engine. It could be damaged or broken too.

The sensor in the pan is your low oil level indicator, rarely do they go bad, but they can get damaged sometimes.

Your oil level was VERY high when we worked on your car, it was over filled, now its low? Did you drain some out, maybe drained too much out possibly?

As for the O2 sensor, Denso's are nice because they tolerate leaded race gas. You can run them, they do work, but they don't last long, especially with race gas being ran. Delco sensors will sbe just fine, a exhaust leak will screw with your readings, because thats un-metered air being introduced. I think you need to do some fixing on your Pace Setters, and then see what happens. But also check your sensor wire(s) for possible melting, that happens.

My car has a check engine light for the O2 as well, it works fine, scans fine, it just doesn't agree with the PCM for some reason. LOL Might just be a '97 bastard thing too, who knows.

I did do an oil change this morning and amazingly enough it was low on oil. I know we did check the engine when it was hot, maybe thats why it said it was overfilled?

I'll go ahead and see if I can get that leak fixed.. somehow..and get a delco sensor. Thats the only brand I haven't tried lol

If it still runs like pooh after this idk what to do. Tune?

Hopefully my engine isn't damaged. Not ready for a new car just yet.<_<
 


Exhaust leaks souldnt cause an o2 to read rich. A clogged cat will however cause a rich condition with no power. Running rich or lean for long periods will destroy o2 sensors. Un plug a vacum line and see if your 02 goes lean. If so maybe you really are running rich. If you dont find an oil leak remove a couple of plugs, maybe you are burning oil.
 
^ya, his plugs looked fine when we had them out for the mods going on. If he was bring oil, we would have seen that for sure.

Might make sure all the vacuum lines are connected, I know we removed and reinstalled them all, but maybe one came off or something. Never hurts to give it a once over.

As for your car running hot, you might want to re-purge the air in the coolant system again. sometimes you cant get it all the first time.

Yeah ill purge the line, check vacuum lines, plugs. But, I may need more help. The low oil light and the low coolant light keep comming on. This happened right after the rocker install. @_@
 
Low coolant can be air trapped in the system, the sensor gets a air bubble trapped around it usually, that's common. You might also check the reservoir and make sure its filled up to the HOT mark, and make sure your radiator is topped off too, since I think you only added coolant to the radiator only.

oil pressure problem, not sure. The pump is pretty much fail proof. I have never seen one fail before. I have seen the pumps grind the crap out of a front cover before...but never fail. Low pressure can be cause by a number of things if it is indeed low pressure, and not just a dummy light misguiding you.

Your engine oil should always be at the full mark, when we checked yours after you started it for a while, yours was reading about 1 to 1.5 quarts OVER full. I checked the dip stick three times, same reading each time.

If you JUST filled your oil and have not started your car, it will read a little high (not 1 to 1.5 quarts high) sure because its all in the pan, and nothing has been pumped up to the top end, or the filter hasn't been filled completely.

I'm sorry, it looks like I failed and put way too much oil in on the last oil change :/ Oil level is where it should be now & low oil light is off. Id still like to know why the light was on. The low oil light dosent come on for low tranny fluid does it? Just curious.

no low fluid light for the trans, you need to check it after its warm, as the level of fluid drops when its gets cold, trans fluid expands when hot.
