Need help, strut replacement

Hi, I'm Rodie from B'ham, Alabama.

I have a 1996 GP SE I bought new and have 161,000 miles on it and the struts are shot. Do the rear struts change out like shocks?
I mean just unbolt and replace.
How about the front? I am thinking I will just change out the whole unit springs and all. Any suggestions on process and brnad of struts?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

If you are going to change struts and springs, it is very simple bolt on, if you are going to use your old springs, still simple, but you need a "strut spring compressor tool". Your local parts store should have a loan a tool program, and they will have one.

Thanks for your replies, I'm new here and I like the site alot.
I bought this car new in 1996 and have not done alot to it but now it is starting to need some attention. I was thinking about putting Monroe struts on it...
It's been a great car and hate to give it up. Just need to put a little money in it to keep it on the road.
