Need Help. Possible transmission problem

My names Nick and I drive a 2007 Grand Prix GXP.
so today I went out to give my car a bath when the car started to ding and shut off everything like traction control, stability control and so on.. it's done this before so I let it idle for a few min and everything went back to normal. Well I wanted to make sure everything else was alright so I went to take a drive down the road and and soon as I tried putting it in second gear it hopped stuttered and cluncked until it barely made it. So I tried third and did the same thing. I have no idea what's wrong because it was completely fine yesterday and now it will barely make it 1/4 mile down the road. If anyone has any suggestions as to what I could do or what is wrong I would greatly appreciate it!

How many miles on the car/tranny? GXP trannys have a very high failure rate. From what you describe your tranny is likely toast. Then again it could be something else, but busted tranny is my first guess. If you don't have the tools/knowledge then your only answer will come from taking it to a shop, obviously.

Around 94000... but well I took it out again later and it worked fine it seemed like... this was after we unhooked the battery

When you say .. you tried putting it in second gear, did you manually select it?

Try this.. put the car in D .. does it slip or refuse to move?
If you then put it in 2 or 1 .. does it slip and move poorly until you are up to speed?

If those two seem right.. your forward band most likely broke.

Then it could be PCM related.

Alright I did some research and hat you said seems like it could be the problems... but i was also wonder do you think it could be the ECM or the TCM? I read that those could also be the issue...

Alright so when I drove it I was in manual and went from 1st to 2nd to 3rd and it messed up both times. By that I mean it seemed like it wanted to stall and just hopped and rocked until it finally got going a bit. I also tried it in drive too on the way back home and it did move and still messed up.. so I don't believe it was from using manual. And what is a forward band?.. sorry I'm pretty lost about this whole thing right now..

Explain "messed up".. I'm sitting at a computer very far away and really can't quite get my telepathy working enough to understand the symptoms from your description.

Hopped, rocked, stalled.. it's not quite making sense with messed up to me. Please try to be very descriptive as to when it does what and how it seems to do it.

I won't guess on pcm or tcm because typically they aren't an issue. There are many more things that can be the issue before we start talking about either of those.

Alright by messed up I meant as it tried to shift to second gear it it seemed to idle down low then slow down then continued to rock, hop and clunk until it made it into gear.. and even then it seemed like it wasn't at full power. That any better?.. it's tough to explain hah

Well just got back from the transmission shop and they said it had something to do with the clutch packs ... so it's a mechanical issue and the reason my car was jerking was because the computer was trying to correct for the issue in the transmission making it shift hard or jump around. I guess now I ask is there anything I should look out for when purchasing and installing a rebuilt tranny?

Why not throw some lucas trans fix in and see if it still continues? YES I know it doesnt not "fix" but it could put a band aid on your trans for a lil bit until it finally goes then get it rebuilt!

See my transmission is wrong fine now... it will sporadically act up... I feel like it's an electrical issue but transmission guy says is a bad tranny...
