Need help from Home server geeks

Dunno if anyone else but me knows anything about these, but ive seen a few of you are computer people as well as car people lol

Ive got a HP Mediasmart Home Server (EX470) and just recently the OS has taken a poop and is giving me some grief with the CPU Fan.

So im replacing the fan and was gonna do a nice fresh install of Windows Home Server, and thats where my question comes into play.. I have the "original" WHS version included with my HP restore CD's etc..
but I was thinking of trying out WHS 2011.. Ive heard some mixed info about it becuase of the drive extender issues etc..

Does anyone here have any experience with WHS 2011? Should i do it? or just stick with what HP gave me?

Thanks

I've only ever worked with Server 2003 and 2008. Both are solid. No idea what the difference is... I assume WHS has less support?

no experience with home servers yet...i was hoping to get my hands on one just to mess with, but then the school decided to 'go green' and recycle it...i watched as it was thrown into the 'recycling bin' i almost cried lol...

stupid school

Yeah my home made servers all ran xp pro lol. But this mediasmart works way better with home server software

If you are afraid you might mess something up than go with what they gave you. But if you have the extra change laying around then go ahead and try it out. Not much experience with servers, but I know a little about computers. And my motto is that if it works, why change it. Or you can always call up HP and ask them.

Might as well just stick with what HP gave you if it does everything you need. I can't imagine you have any uses that go much farther than sharing your music, pictures and video. Hell even plain old Windows can do that -- part of the reason why I don't understand the purpose of WHS. A home server can be made out of any regular PC, the biggest deal is that it has to be on all the time.

Yeah. The being on part sucks. I love this little guy. 4 hdd bays plus limitless external drive hook up. And it's small.
Im also not worried about buying software. Never have bought any in the past lol why start now :)
