NEED ADVISE for 1994 Grand Prix SE 3.1L Inner Tie Rod Replacement

Hi Everyone,

The inner tie rod needs to be replaced on 94 Grand Prix SE 3.1L. I took out the outer rod from the inner. I got the special tool to remove it, however, it does not work. The inner tie rod does not have a hex on it. The outer part of the inner rod is rotates on it self. I would be appriciated if anyone gives me an advise.
Thank you,

Kanki

it won't have a hex on it it'll have 2 flat spots for the tool to hook on. There are also different sized inner tie rod tools as well so make sure you have the right one.

lisle makes another special inner tie rod tool for the tie rods that do not have anything to grab on to; or just put a pipe wrench on it.

Thank you all for helping me out. The inner tie rod on my vehicle is covered some type of a yellow ring, which rotates on it. I did not know that one comes out. I will try to take that one out first. I will post the result.
Thank you again.

Kaan

under that is the 2 flat spots i was talking about. that ring doesn't really need to go back on if you don't want it to.

Thanks for all the advise.
I was able to took it off yesterday. I put the new part and the remaning parts. Now I have to take it to the shop for balancing.
I have one more question. I screwed the new rod to approximatley where the old one was. When the stering is showing forward the vehicle pulls to the right side. My question is if I put the new rod off from the old place, it can be still balanced witout removing and adjusting the outer tie rod?
Thank you,

Kaan

The inner needs to be as tight as you can get it and as for the outer they don't need to remove it to do an alignment.
