I have a 97 GTP. Under hard acceleration, it almost feels like there is traction control kicking on and off. I surges all the way to the redline. We are talking about a $1000 car so and otherwise it runs fine. Could it be the SC belt slipping? There is no squeal. Maybe the ignition moduel ? Any ideas/suggestions would be great.

PS Fuel pump has been replaced recently.
 


hmmm, next time you do it, keep hard on the gas for about 5 seconds. tell me if you get a flashing SES light. im thinking cylinder misfire due to plugs or wires
 
IMO, I wouldnt beat the crap out of a car that has a misfire...so I'd try asking if he has ever seen the flashing SES light before beating on it to check :p

Ummm, check plugs/wires/coils.
 
Well I did it about 30 mins ago and it feels like I'm running over a small rumble strip. It has started doing it without surging now. I don't think the trans is slipping. I'll check plugs/wires and I have a spare ignition mod so I'll change it. If it still does it, I''ll look at the MAF. ($$$$$). There is a junk yard that allows you to pull your own parts near here and I picked a module for $40. I don't see an SES light flashing.
