2002 grand prix gtp, headers, cam, 3.4 pulley, all the mine bolt on stuff.

i just got my trans all updated with all the goodies. my trans guy said i should invest in a external trans cooler. doesn't sound like a bad idea.

BUT, i heard the ideal trans temp is 175*. ive got a 160 t stat in the car now. so is a trans cooler still needed or will the radiator keep it at a good temp?

any insight will help.

ur gonna get mixed opinions on this... i invested in a hayden cooler from triple edge performance and i like it... but why are u running a 160? 180 is better for 3.4 setups.

Here's my thing. The thought of the trans cooler inside the radiator scares me. Such a small wall keeping them seperate.

Here's what happens when that wall breaks. Hello coolant, bye bye clutches

That being said, usually my trans got up to about 240* or so after lots of driving. Nowadays with a cooler I see 180ish peaking at 200

^ those pics are why i now i have a stand alone cooler... replaced trans and got one cuz i was leaking coolant into the trans lines.... bye bye transmission. strawberry milk trans fluid isnt cool.
