N/A Impala,Modded,3.69 gears, SOLD!!

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears ordered!

Honestly blue with these current gears it feels like no power untill 3500rpms lol, then it feels like im starting to pull much harder.

but on another note! gears have arrived!!

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

You do know he doesn't have the stock fdr right?
I'd believe it. N/A with whatever the olds 98's have for gearing has little low end power. Then go even lower FDR and sure

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

Ive seen plenty n/a dyno charts and they power curve rises to roughly 5000rpms or so and dies off quickly after that. So i figure with my hv3 and headers and all the other crap i have it moved my power curve even higher in the rpms.
Im no expert though lol.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

Sounds about right. Probably only bumps power up maybe 500 rpms at best, the hv3 making the biggest difference. Intake runners have more of an effect than I'll ever understand.

If you go low enough in the fdr it will eventually feel like second gear start lol

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears ordered!

It's a gear change, so it'll change things such as trap speed, but you're staying the beef of the powerband more.

I put 3.69's in my GXP, which is the V8 car. And it woke up the car quite a bit, especially with the super long factory gearing.
No question it will feel different, but do you have before & after 1/4 times or something? I'm curious to know actual before and after differences (besides "feel").

look at this very old thread.
http://www.3800pro.com/forum/quarter-mile-times/7893-new-n-record.html

he has a huge weight reduction and alot of mods so expect slower. I have almost the same mods just not a built trans like his, so im hoping for mid 14's if i can get traction

then he got heads and cam and went 13.6 in the qtr.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

I just asked if you followed the thread during that discussion. Wasn't questioning your knowledge.

Quarter mile times would be cool but a few long pulls would be an easy comparison.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

If it runs 14's, I'd be hard pressed to believe it unless I saw it. It took a GT2 cammed SE here with weight reduction to crack off a 14.8.

It's also an Impala, and they're normally a 100-200~ or so more pounds heavier than the GP's. Hell there was an Indy500 car that tipped the scale at 3780. Ain't a light weight by any means lol.

I'm sure it runs great for an N/A car, I have no doubt. The 3.69's will help quite a bit, but it'll only do so much.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

180hp has a heck of a time getting 2:72's moving, it'll have a much easier time getting 3:69's going for sure.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

I guess my point is that I'd be surprised if you pick up much more than 0.1 second in the 1/4 mile based on a gear change alone. I'm curious if there are any before & after results that would indicate a more significant improvement, and how this stacks up in the "bang for the buck" department.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

^For most people coming from stock gears, probably not so much.

Well, considering for the work involved...I'd rather put a wet kit on the car and just added 75~+ HP shots to it, and gain much more for a few hundo more.

But that's just me.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

It needed gears since i screwed up and put ultra long gears in lol so i figured good excuse to go all out lol.
Ill be extremely disappointed if it dont crack 14.9 in the qtr. The net is littered with old threads of n/a cars doing that with way less mods then i have.

Remember z34phoenix? He pulled a 14.9 with just 3.29 gears.hv3.sd headers and a tune. I got a few more mods then that.

double post FTMFW!

I have no idea how the indy500 could weigh so much it doesnt have any featured over my LS that would increase the weight.
I went to the truck stop and used my fuel points to get a free weigh at the scales.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

Well it's got the blower setup. And bigger wheels. I don't know. Probably had dead hookers in the trunk.

I do. I also knew he had a wideband in the car, and was constantly tuning it. It's lighter than your car. And I thought it had more than just an HV3 and headers. But whatevs.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

My bad i looked at the thread again and he had a diy ported tb.96 z34 weighs the same as any wbody (3400'sh)
I am also wideband tuned from overkill.
Itll be interesting for sure to see what this car pulls.

Re: N/A Impala.. 3:69 gears have arrived!!

Ya. 2 years back did a few runs. With a 2.5" downpipe.hv3.tune got a 15.6 but i wasn't even squawking the tires so could of launched much harder.
So now those mods + headers.cat delete.cat back exhaust.er rockers. L67hvtb.4"intake.wp underdrive pulley. Retuned and 3.69 gears i should be able to hit 14's
