My turbo update

UR LOSN

New member
well, after the first attempt of putting a custom kit on my car..we ran into some snags.(I didnt want to take out my creature comforts) basicly had to start all over.

I think this design will work better.:th_praying:

here a few pics I snapped off today...well ones I am willing to show anyways...

P2070010.jpg

the front bumper support is being removed...as the intercooler goes to the vry top of the support....thus I am loosing all the air going to the top of the intercooler. also notice the position of the turbo. nothing down there, we are currently in the process of making an enclosure with air ports to allow heat to escape around the turbo..this will aid in keeping the paint on my bumper. also its almost a straight shot from the turbo to the FMIC.

I just have to modify my front frame a little bit to make piping for the rest of the exhaust. or lack there of. exhaust will be coming out the side of the bumper in front of the drivers front tire....basicly I will have a 5" out pipe for exhaust.

here is a pic with the bumper on:

so I will have HID headlamps, and 1 HID foglamp. OH WELL!!!

and yes we are making a custom filter for it so when I take it on long trips(Branson)...I wont suck anything into my engine. I think this new setup will work out perfectly. as for the other 1st design....I will be using it on my GT....with a smaller turbo.:th_winking:

ps....I really like these new smiley faces...

have no fear...I loaned my spare camera to the shop. they are going to take detailed pics of everything they do. if I had one of those cameras that take a pic every 30sec I would be set...from start to finish. overall I am on time for my Dyno this next month.....this dyno will not be all out...I should make at LEAST 550 on moderate boost. I will be changin out these heads when ZZP finally releases the one off aluminum, then there is no holding back......with meth injection on top of the C16. I am hoping 707fwhp when its all said and done...and boost set on kill. and I am not sponsored. this is the work of a 3year build and racking up more than 20K into the car I bought for 15K.

I have an idea for my fuel tank/cell. shop next door does nothing but Tig weld....may have them make me a custom tank to fit in stock location....so I am able to use the stock fuel door.... I have sooo many ideas for this.

So from looking at the pictures you have posted already, the inlet for the turbo is actually be sucked through your Foglight opening??? That is actually genious!!! But you mentioned the filter thing, I dont see a 7" K&N sticking out of the Foglight hole though? :)

Great work though and like the others have said, I cant wait to see the finished product!!

looks promising!

are you going with a similar exhaust exit like ZZP? Is this your streetcar?:th_eyebrows:

looks good....I would like to see how it will look with the filter though..........also I would not run just one fog, i would just get rid of it.

Looks good so far. That ZZP car is just nuts. I got to see it at the fall MGM. Is that last pic from there? They didn't run that day but I thought they were going to do some shake down runs the next day. Not sure if they did.

I honestly am beginning to think the Stattama car did'nt run as good as they hoped it would with that new setup. :th_lipssealed2:

But aside from that.... those pictures look bad ass URLOSN.:th_king-evil:

I heard somewhere that it's not a good idea to put the turbos down there because there so close to the ground that they suck in all of the hot air radiating off of the track...does anyone know of this I eventually would like to do a turbo setup???

honestly I havent heard of a problem with the turbo's down there. I would see it if the turbo didnt have a filter on it...but when it is covered...I dont see a problem. There is literally NOTHING down there..just wasted space.

my exhaust will come out the front bumper angled down...not through the fender. I have never seen those pics of the ZZP car. that is really cool, and have come to the conclusion I will not reach a 9sec pass. I never realized that the ZZP GTP was no longer a GTP........ that have nothing to base it on anymore, it is all tube chassis. where as mine has the stock core supports, aluminum subframe.....just one little piece cut out of the front frame to allow the exhaust to go down to the turbo.

other than that...my car is a stock bodied GTP. this is what I am going for...a street car...an ACTUAL street car.

I am running one fog lamp in the GT right now to see how things go....it erks me a bit. but these arent HID's either.

more pics to come....

the filter the more I think about it will NOT stick out of the front bumper...it will be a rounded one...like on the supras..that just slip over the end of the turbo. all I would have to do it trim a little more of the foglight hole to make it fit.

from what chelby is talking about, a filter isnt going to keep hot air away from the turbo--- plus, if youre routing the exhaust out the FRONT, it's going to further warm up the area around the turbo.

runnin one fog light isnt gonna be much help i dont think :P

ah..but you missed it. we are currently makig a box with vents...to help pull cool air in , and let the hot air out. and also protect my paint from melting.... the exhaust will instantly be turned outward..the pipe will stick 2" past the front tire to help eliminate chances of any contaminates getting on the front tire going all out.

plus we have to make a custom front air dam...this plays a key part in bringing air to the housing.....

you should run some lakes pipes!

heh

Not to rain on the parade but turbos gravity feed the return oil back into the engine.... I always thought putting the turbo in that spot looked nice sure, but oil is just going to pool in the return line as the oil pressure going into the turbo for lube isnt intended to push the oil out, another reason the return line is so big as its not a pressure line so much as a volume to allow drainback. So with that thought at hand I would be curious to know a turbo's and the oils life with that arrangement or oil puddleing up and causing the seals to not do their intended job in the turbo. Just some food for thought

Ironicly enough we were discussing this very same question when I was snapping the pics. thats when I broke out the protractor, and tape measure to measure overall length/angle from the oil return port on the turbo to the oil level sensor hole. I am using a -8 return line(quite a bit bigger than the -4 feed line)....and the turbo actally sits 1.7" higher than the oil level sensor hole in the pan. this will allow for adequite oil return.

However....there is that 15% chance I will have a problem. at which point I will have a seperate oil tank that the oil will feed into from the turbo....from there I will have a seprate oil pump to pump it from the container..through an external oil cooler, then back into the oil pan.

very good eye Trannyman!!! I spent an entire day going over the oilling system......I hope I have all the kinks out of it.

right now I am worried about my trans......I will be dropping off my spare here within the next month(if all goes according to my dimwitted plan)
