That's the crazy thing... That's only like 50%, maybe 2/3 open. There's still some in reserve there! I'm not sure they'll ever see 100%. Not because I don't think my boys would eventually be able to responsibly handle it, but because I think 100% would absolutely destroy that cheap Chinese chassis!
But holy cow, did they have fun! Took them over to the grandparents for a cousin's birthday party, and the kid in the video rode right through dinner, cake, and ice cream!

if the carbs can be tuned i bet they are a bit lean. open the screw a 1/2 turn, that should help with the temps too. turn the idle up a bit too.

my chinese atv went on jumps, rolled it a few times, drove through creeks never broke it. I also jetted the carb. I am sure the chinese have made some improvements since then, **** the chinese turbos have made huge improvements since 8 years ago!

I think they can be tuned, and even rejetted, but like the factory set q-jets, the adjuster screws are blocked off. I think the tune is good, or good enough. Maybe a little rich, if anything due to our elevation. My only immediate concern is the idle speed. I'll pull the plug after they get some serious run time to get a better gauge on the A/F adjustment.
The difference in quality and features on these new ones vs. the one I had before is quite different. Old one only had one hand control rear brake and no remote. New ones have foot controlled rear brake, hand controlled dual front drum brakes, and the remote kill.

if you got sealed off mix screw areas, i hate that crap. they all do it now. so you cant rebuild it now. if its running hot your fuel mix could be off some, keep in minds the fuel lubes the engine. so you may be lean on the oil mix.
it should smoke some. if theres no smoke at all then its likely lean as hell

I got the idle adjusted on both of them last night. Couldn't be easier. 1/16 of a turn should do it. If not, I'll adjust it on the fly next weekend when they ride again. Can't wait!

Took them out again today. Neighbor kid came with us also. 3 kids, 2 quads taking turns. They ran from about 3:00 pm when I got there till about 7:00 when it got dark. They literally ran the whole time, minus a 15 minute break for dinner. Managed to run a full tank through them. So now I know, one tank is good for about 4 hours. Only had one little hiccup. The red one seemed to lose power once it got really warm. Not knowing where to start, I monkey'd with the in line filter, and petcock. Whatever I did worked. No problems after that. I guess these are known for having crummy shut offs. It could have been limiting the flow. Either that, or the filter had something slowing the flow. Either way, it ran like a champ the rest of the day!
I did have a couple of tires go flat after the last trip. Turned out there was a bunch of little pin holes in the tread area. Assuming they were from cactus spines. Got a 32oz. bottle of that "slime" for $11.75 and split it evenly between the eight tires. Held air all night and all of the next day. I'm sure it also prevented a couple more leaks from today's ride. Highly recommend that stuff for little tires like those.
Tomorrow the boys wash them and we do a little PM. Probably just oil the chains and check that all the fasteners are tight.

LOL! Yup! They each dumped it once. Pushed the quad back to rubber side down, hopped on and kept rolling. As a father, that's a proud moment.

flipping it over is part of learning, now they know not to turn so hard when going so fast lol like a horse, best to get right back on the damn thing lol

Exactly. They're also working on the whole "leaning to the inside of the turn" thing too. Getting better...
Ha! And they did too. nothing was going to stop them. I think a big part of it is how you react. A simple "You good?" shows concern, but doesn't get them all worked up.

im glad my parents failed to see any of my failed stunts, they would of had me in the er once a month lol me and my brother were nuts, if it had wheels we tried to make it fly, hell we even jumped the go cart we had.
i ended up learning cars dont like to leave the ground the hard way. had a vw rabbit that took flight like a champ off the rr tracks, but time caught up with me and uni body cracked lol game ender lol oh im taking all 4 wheels off the ground for 20 feet at least lol good jump, over and over again.

Took them out again yesterday morning. Perfect day. Mid 70's with a light breeze. The boys rode for about three hours.
Had my first serious scare. Middle child managed to roll his right on top of his head. Wedged his helmet between the rear fender and luggage rack. I ran over there and peeled it off him. I looked him over, asked if he was okay. Other than being really shook up, he was fine. I explained that that's why we wear protective equipment, and that he was okay because everything did it's job.
Took a five minute break to calm down, and grab some water. After that he was back to riding. It was a good day!

best to get right back on the horse. the scare will only slow him down for a short time lol kids lack FEAR!!

I found a DOT approved helmet, goggles and gloves for $37 shipped from Amazon. Kinda foolish to NOT have the proper protection when it's such a small percentage of the total cost.

Gonna be too hot for the next couple of months to ride, and I wanted my garage real estate back. I rolled the dice on a couple of Amazon grill covers. They were substantially cheaper than actual ATV covers. Not real concerned about rain, but I wanted to keep the sun off of them. Pleasantly surprised by how well they fit. Pretty heavy fabric too. Not bad for $27 each.

there will be several days this week where the high is 90. wife and I have been discussing getting an air conditioner for our room. the house we live in now has the master bedroom upstairs, and is on the west side of the house, so it get's the hottest. our last house, the master bedroom was in the basement. it was wonderful. I would have a hard time living down there.

After a good monsoon rain, we will have standing water here and there for about a day. Otherwise, nothing. All dry and dusty. I might get them out for a ride after the next storm. I think they would enjoy flinging some mud.
