I replaced lim gaskets on my neighbors sons 95 gp 3.1 and for payment (which I didn't ask for I was just trying to be nice) he gave me this ac/heater for my garage. It did a great job cooling the garage off. I'm gonna install an exhaust vent in the side of my garage. I'm excited not to work in the 100+ or - degree weather.
 


Those are sweet for a garage. We just bought one that's 10kw BTU and in the weld shop it doesn't do squat. We ended up using 20" box fans and ducting them through the clear drapes to keep the temps down it was getting 95* in there, now it's about 83 so it's a lot better. I wanted to put AC in the garage but couldn't find a good way to vent the condensor side from the window units so I closed off 1/4 of the garage and made a little area large enough to keep tools and have my work bench so I can reload or just work on things in the AC. Made a whole wall then used moving blankets I wasn't using to make the 4th wall. Works great, I only had a 5000 btu window AC unit that I use for camping and mounted it. Last year I was running an errand at work and drove past a pile of junk and someone was throwing away a slightly larger one than the one I had so I stopped threw it in the back of the truck and went back to the office. Plugged it in and other than being really dirty worked. Removed the cover and cleaned it out then cut another hole in the wall. Now it will get to 72 even in the heat of the day.

for those who haven't done 3.1 lim gaskets my only advise is.......don't! I can do my 3.8 in a couple hours while drinking my favorite beverage (vodka) so in my stupidity and drunken state said "hell i can do that it should only take me 3 hrs or so". Hmmmm little did i know that the 3.1 and 3.4 sucks major balls. Working with a hangover and 100+ degree heat it took me 7 hrs to do this craptastic job. You have to take off the upper intake, fuel rails, coil packs, alternator,power steering pump, valve covers then have to loosen rockers to release the push rods because the stupid lim gaskets are behind the pushrods. Holy hell this was one of those moments when you step back and say wtf!!!!

Im excited to see how well it works in a closed garage, we had the door part way open to vent the exhaust and it did great.
 
Those things are pretty big output for their size, I have some friends that have them and they work great. The only thing is remembering to drain the condensate tank and insulating the discharge tube so you don't radiate any more heat back into the area your cooling. If you have a metal door garage, I used 3/4" styrofoam with the radiant barrier and cut it to fit the panels. Then make something to seal off the rest of the gap under the door.

Then you have to make sure to keep the correct pushrods with the intakes and exhaust valves are different lengths. I did 5 of them and the only one that really gave me trouble was the Venture with a 3.4 the rear was a pain. The other cars I did were 97'-98' Luminas and a Cutlass supreme. The last one I did in 2 hours, but my first one took about the same as you.

This was my first one and i had "help" (which caused me issues) all i know is im in no big hurry to do another.

no it was awful even worse bc i had "help". im no expert at anything but im very anal about taking things apart and making sure everything goes back where it came from. I take lots of pictures and make sure that even if i dont know what im doing i can put it back like it was.
