• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

My Latest Mod - Lighted cupholders

I did this same thing to my prix. I took a few steps further, though I like this install, very clean, especially your button! Fantastic. I added 2 more LEDs under neath the radio in that little cubby. Not a distracting amount of glow, but just enough to give that ambiance. Here's some pics of mine:

An overview: you can see that I have 2 in the cup holder and then 2 little ones in the cubby:

The steps were quite simple: I tapped into the power from my aftermarket radio, dropped the wire behind the back, under the middle section, straight into my middle console to the switch. Then I drilled holes and installed the LEDs and ran the wire by my gear shift then put all the wires together and ran one single wire back to my switch to provide power.

I tapped into my aftermarket radio's 12 v and ground wire. I'm about to do some cleanup of the wiring and what not, I'll take some pics of my wiring underneath once it's all said and done and post back here.

Here's the pics I promised...

Maybe not the neatest wiring job in the world, but hey...it works!

I ended up adding 2 more LEDs to the little cubby:

Notes: I purchased breakaway connectors for my wiring, took a couple extra steps but in the long run it'll be beneficial.

It works like a charm! Loving it.

The wires I dropped from the radio

I got my power from the wrapped wires that that you can see running horizontally across in this pic you posted. They are the wires for the auxillary power outlet on the passenger side of the console. Constant 12v and plenty to power a couple LEDs.

Nice install BTW. :th_thumb-up:

Yeah that would have probably been easier but I felt safer with going with a wire I already spliced but that would have been a hell of a lot easier.

Thanks! I worked hard on keeping the wired nice and clean. Took some extra time but I think it was worth it.

Abrasive awesome job with the install very clean , unique , how about other lighting , what else have ya done ?

As far as lighting..... nothing. LOL

Have to do this mod on my wife's GTP now. Going to try the multicolor slow color changing LEDs on hers.

I'm about to start a project similar, but a little more intricate. I'm replacing the bottom of the cupholders with plexiglass and adding a little plexiglass ring on top of that so it's more side-lit than botton-lit. Here's a 3D render of what it should look like:

cupholderprototype.png

The top, bottom, and sides of the octagon are layered in foil tape in that render, represented by the thin gray-ish objects, and the little white-ish dots are LEDs. I'm also considering putting some sort of decal stencil on the bottom and making that bottom lit. Also split on using 8 or 4 LEDs per cupholder, but since I'm getting 200 of them I figured I might as well just throw a bunch in there.

i like this alot! its kinda like what the sions have, which i wish the GPs had. gonna try this on mine soon with the color changing leds
